  1. Re:good question on iCraveTV To Relaunch · · Score: 1

With a 56k connection available through work which is also available at 30 prime locations in Canada,
most of which i do business with or have family at, i dont pay a penny of personal, work benefits be having me online across the country and if i REALLY need something huge i get my friend with cable or my brother with DSL to burn it for me ...

I wouldnt split too many hairs on this on, but if the same deal could be had with DSL or CABLE we are switching!!!! ICRAVE TV, yah id watch it to be amused, heck i still like going out to the movies
try beating that for eye/ear candy!!

That having my compaq p233 ripped off by a smash and grab, replaced by their E500 shipped with a damaged screen may pave the way for a thinkpad loaded with a decent O/S and w/support? Way to go IBM! .... uh .... sorry Compaq?

Wonderful. This lurker just wanted to unlurk to say Tres Bien. /. is a regular stop on the way to daily reading. Dual 650's sound nice. Much quicker load on this 45333 connect. Looking forward to the rest of your config/setup info. artr ... from the Great Wet/Windy (not White) North ...

  4. Re:So true on SuSe CEO: 'Linux Still Not Ready for the Desktop' · · Score: 1

Back in Jan i made the leap with a great deal of help from my brother who is linux-fluent. Being a full time admin in a non-computer business (we network windows for communications etc) + being a dad of two young boys, a 3 hour total commute and husband .... i dont get much time to hunker down and learn much new beyond what im already adept at. Ive encountered the standard list of obstacles as mentioned above, but not to the point of frustration. I simply see that my new O/S requires some thought, some questions to usenet, some reading of newbie manuals, FAQ's etc and not to mention some secure shell help from my brother in the worste case scenario. Honestly, i admit i love the plug and play of windows. My old P100 is still running since 1995 with 95 on it. The kids use it and its still solid. But i cant for the life of me see going back now that ive made an investment on the PIII. Simply everything i need to do i can do. Star Office, the Gimp and a host of other "free" software programs gives freedom i might not otherwise afford right now. For the things i have not yet mastered, im happy to accept the challenge. In a nutshell, this user is ready for Linux on the desktop. And let me tell you, in full agreement with the above comments, so are a lot of other people. If you want something to bridge the gap buy VMware. If someone was willing a well setup machine should potentially be able to be mirrored on another harddrive? Correct me if im wrong. I think its just a matter of time. art
