    pkgsrc can install precompiled binaries, and its meant to be portable, so port it to all the other distros, and package for it. also .pbi are MEANT for

    normal non-command-line-savvy users

    because they follow the same principal as a windows instaler. they are basicaly per-package instalation GUIs.

    actualy i do want it, but thats just me, i see your point.still, isnt the price tag a tsd to heavy, even if they have the best design? OTOH that bag-laptp could easyly be moded, not moderated, into something exatly to my taste. then again, thats why i use linux, and as a minority my opinion doesnt count. BTW i thought OS X userland==FreeBSD userland, tnx for the info anyway.

    my theory was that you havent seen any 'good' ones, so you think all are bad. pretty much same here in BG, most are dead obnoctious, but some i actualy like to watch, like a music video. thing is, ironicaly these are for liquor, and i dont know the Fsckin' Communication Cocks's policy on that. though i could be wrong, just my $0.02.

    mach sintered microkernel? hell, ive always wanted to shoehorn a FreBSD kernel in OS X, its just better. OS X isnt even an OS, its darwin + propietary APIs. by the way, quality hardware is electricaly better. period. exclamation mark. puting together is nothing.

    a bunchof randomblocks, meaningless on their own, data when you have the metadata, and is on multiple nodes. Sounds like a distributed steganographik file system. I think a local one + bittorrent would do just as well, sans most of the overhead. My $0.02

    WinFS? you mean NTFS? well, ntfs-3g drivers have shown to have a quite acceptable performance, actuly competing with JFS XFS, etc. And thats without optimization. Dont get me wrong, i like ZFS, kinda, but its overkill on the desktop, i think.
