Something similar happened to me recently. Google Maps led me to a business that was no longer there (if it ever was). A week or so later, I asked it about a Wells Fargo branch. It sent me to one about a mile away. Later on, I realized there was one just a block down the street from where I made the inquiry. Doh!
This. If I didn't have to worry about people torrenting movies or downloading kiddie porn, I'd be happy to share some bandwidth. Unfortunately, the real world dictates I not even consider this.
As a T-Mobile customer, I welcome our new overloards. Ever try using T-Mobile outside a metro area (Kansas, rural Texas, etc.)? Even in some some metro areas (Omaha, Austin suburbs) coverage is horrible. Anything that gives T-Mobile more towers is fine with me (as long as it's not AT&T).
It has long been known that what you post online, for all the world to see, is YOUR responsiblity.
Google is ignorant in a lot of realms, and I criticize them regularly. But one thing they DO get right (about the only thing....) is search. They are NOT reponsible for whatever is posted by whoever about whoever.
Don't like what A said about B? Take it up with A. Google had nothing to do with it. All they did was report that A said X about B. Capiche?
People shouldn't HAVE to pay for bug fixes. I sell you a product for $100 and I promise it does a, b, and c. However, sometimes it does c incorrectly. You'd demand that I fix it, no? But no, I'm a software developer so I just say, "Sorry, I don't have time for that, but here's my new version you can have for (another) $100!" What other industry gets away with this?
Use Firefox. They have the same idiocy (mapping back to backspace - which I can't stand either) but at least you can turn it off. Almost nothing in Chrome is customizable. Why it has such a large following is beyong me.
Like Microsoft and Google. Thread after thread after thread about the same problems and none of them get solved because the company (apparently) doens't bother to read them.
They're very happy to see that your $100 is disposable. Now instead of building products that work as expected and actually last longer than a few years, they can count on you coming back for more, $100 bill in hand. Sucker.
So a business found a way to cut costs and thereby increase profits? For shame!
...the people who were laid off could not apply for 5 months.
Why would you apply to work for the same company that just kicked you to the curb? I'd tell 'em to go to hell.
Privacy concerns and the black market will keep the cash alive.
It would be nice if Google had some competetition here. I went to openstreetmap.org and entered my address but it said nothing found. That's too bad.

Their cost of living is 1/6 too.
Because Attorney General Eric Holder won't do his job and appoint a special prosecutor.
Maybe that's part of the problem. Too many cooks spoiling the broth? Perhaps I'm naive, but 18k seems a bit much for what they produce.

Problem is, the same people who initiate the prosecuting are in on it. Have you heard of a guy named Eric Holder?
Without an SSN you need a DOB. At least that's the case for all the credit checks I've run at mutliple companies over the past 20 years.
Credit check. A company choosing to keep it AFTER the fact is folly, unless your a banker extending credit and you need to periodically re-run credit.
Very interesting, thanks. I was wondering where the ch came from.
Doh! I stand corrected.

13 mod points but they don't work on this thread for some reason. Anyhow... +1!
If I could only trust the Chinese to not build in their own backdoors.
You might already have a virus. I've never seen any such thing on /.
Now who are the fools who paid for this so desperately-needed research? Oh yeah. My own government. Once again.
Yep. Firefox is far superior to Chrome. You can customize almost anything in Firefox and nothing in Chrome.
