I may be wrong, but I remember hearing that Microsoft had to pay licensing fees to IBM (I Believe) in order to use DOS in its operating system. This is probably a way for Microsoft to get away from that type of money-drainer.

I admit, the idea of a cool colored or translucent case is kinda neat. The problem is when you add any sort of drives to it such as an internal zip drive or a dvd and a cd burner. As far as I have found, its damn near impossible to find a translucent internal 8x cd burner. As soon as you add any drive, your computer looks like a crappy combination of Magenta and beige.
Cases try to solve this problem by putting that snappy sliding panel that covers the drive bays, but who wants to slide a silly little panel whenever you want to access a drive? Colored cases are only cool if you don't want your machine to have any added components....like an imac, or a doorstop.
It seems odd to me that on one hand, Steve was saying that varying manufatures of hardware/software lead to systems that are less stable (ie x86 systems). How can he then turn around and say that open sourced software will be better? Wouldnt this lead to a less homogenous os/system? Just wonderin' -Chris
I for one have come to grips with the vile greed of George Lucas. I just wired him all the cash in my checking account and begged his forgiveness for my miserly ways.
First they dis AMD by cutting their product line, then they buy Amiga. Now, They've cut their losses on Amiga and come crawling back to AMD, the company they said wasn't good enough. This is a cow country PR disaster! I also find it funny watching the cash cow Intel, who rested on their laurels, releasing what the wanted when they wanted, scuttle like a frightened chimp. Way to go underdog! -Chris
I am a user of Sun, Linux, and Windows operating systems. I would agree wholeheartedly that open sourced OS's have it all over Windows. But I can't BELIEVE that you all would be foolish enought to praise China's decision on this matter. Sure it promotes your favorite OS, but at what cost?
Protectionist policies have no place in the modern world economy, and serve only to put up barriers between people/countries. No matter what your feeling for a particular OS is, you should not promote the exclusion of all others. Isn't this the exact stuff you are pissed about microsoft doing in the US? Great, you are doing it yourselves. If you truly believe in the Linux operating system, then it will flourish without the banishment of all other operating systems.
While the Voodoo 5 sounds like a great card, I think its unfair to compare a card to be released in 3-5 months to one that is out now (either the ATI or the geforce cards. What 3DFX has out now is what matters. The graphics market is changing month to month.
I am a poultry inspector by trade, and I'd have to say that I am TRULY excited about the prospect of wearing a skin-tight vinal suit to work each day. Oh yeah....the computer is cool too.

Don't get me wrong, I could never argue with advice not to get an ATI board!
