Port scanning also is not a crime(for now at least) but a lot of crimes are started with it. I don't blame people for getting a little paranoid.
It's like a guy swinging a baseball bat all over the place. Sure it's not illegal but he could start clobbering people whether on purpose or not. I'd probably tell him to stop swinging too.
My brother-in-law lives in California and has had all kinds of trouble since this event. Conicidence?? You start stealing service and disrupting other people's service and you just crossed the line.
The people that are just scanning and mapping could be considered accesories to the crime when other people use their info to "steal bandwidth".
Any tips for smb settings? Any links to docs would be gladly accepted. I'm trying to connect to a shared storage server automatically. No home directory.
Hopefully you aren't considering it a mid-range machine still.;-P
486 can still get the low end going. I still have a couple old 486s around but I tend to use Pentiums for my low end stuff since I have a few around not doing much else anyway.
I'm seeing similar temps with my 1800. I've been using Swiftech MCX370 heat sinks for a while now.
I used a couple different ones before that supposedly were overclocking heatsinks. I couldn't keep the system cool to save my life with these "overclocking" heatsinks. Runs great since the Swiftechs.
Considering that the Athlon was originally shooting against the Pentium 2, I think it has scaled very well. Let's see what Hammer can do. I think Intel will go back to playing the catch-up game but what do I know.
This would allow you to run Irix binaries under NetBSD. It would be for all the ports they want to port it to but doesn't mean you can run it on MIPS hardware. The first port seems to be x86 from the what I've seen. It is cool to be able to run the apps that Irix has in binary form that couldn't be run with an SGI box up now.
How long until this will let you run the MIPS version of Quake? LOL
The sgimips port is making progress slowly right now. O2 is console through a serial port right now. It is still pretty rough but at least it is moving forward. I have an O2 and have been watching the mailing lists for awhile now. I haven't seen anything better from anyone else though so I'm still running Irix.
Seriously though, this about running Irix binaries under NetBSD. There is a lot of source code that compiles under both OSes. There are a lot of binaries for Irix that you will never see the source to. This would allow you to run some proprietary Irix apps that you would otherwise need an SGI box to run.
I've used compatiblity to run some proprietary apps under FreeBSD that were designed for a different CPU and OS. I couldn't convince the bean counters to buy me a specialized box for this one app but it was real easy to convince them to let me use FreeBSD on it.
If it were just compilers then I would have to agree about it being more trouble than it's worth.
If you really want to ditch a box then my O2 could use some company.;)
You can run sshd and use the server but you are right about getting to the underlying OS being an issue. It all depends on how much you are really trying to do with this box.
You can do most everything with the command line under NT/2k but documentation often needs hunted down. You also need to get the Resource Kit(s) to get all the command-line tools and addons to really do what you want to do.
The trouble with this is that you would have unixish tools available but really need to get to the nt/2k command line ones to administer the box. Maybe you can come in on ssh and have it connect to a local telnet that only accepts from localhost. Not perfect but better than telnet directly in.
CMKY for one thing. Photoshop plugin support for another. There are a quite a few other small things but it doesn't apply to most people just dinking around with some web graphics.
Does Gimp do tubes?
I've used Gimp on many platforms and think it has come a long ways. It still isn't up to Photoshop/Paintshop Pro but most people don't really need that anyway. Maybe platform independence and all the core features will be enough for most people.
I remeber getting a version of Paintshop Pro up in WINE. I think it was version 5 but maybe it was only 4. I haven't tried anything more recent.

I'll post numbers from my Word benchmarks*
SIS6326 video card: Loads Word in 12.0003712 seconds
Nvidia NV30 pre-production overclocked: Loads Word in 12.0003101 seconds
As you can see here, the Nvidia card blows the SIS card out of the water. Our base-line TNT2 Ultra card falls somewhere in the middle of these at 12.0003442 seconds. As you can see this is a very good benchmark that is better than those stupid game benchmarks.
*All benchmark numbers are figments of my imagination and totally worthless
Geforce4 4200 and Radeon 8500 prices. Of course the GF4 4600 starts just shy of $300. Bang for the buck would suggest you buy one of the first 2 unless you really need the speed.
Maybe you just want the extra speed. Ok, go ahead. I'm not telling you what to do.
Sure it is possible but there will be airborne pork before that happens. The difference in CPUs will stop you from just dropping the CD in and going. There would also be the whole bios vs. openfirmware which could probably eventually be worked out. The problem is that Apple wouldn't want you to have a reason not to buy the hardware that makes a large chunk of the money. Compiling it for the x86 platform would kill sales for Apple hardware. Would you buy a $3000 box when you could get a $800 Athlon and throw OS X on it? Some still will but not enough to make it worth Apple's while.
What system are you running? Have you used Sonnet's OS X installer to go with their upgrades?
I've installed OS X on my stock 8600 (300Mhz 604e)and would be a little surprised if you couldn't make the G4 upgrade work. Of course there is often other issues out there.
The problem isn't with slashdot.org but with the www. part. Used to have problems with the cookies if you used www.slashdot.org instead of slashdot.org. Maybe you should watch who you are calling names if you don't understand either. But, this is/. afterall so I wouldn't expect anything less from an AC.

A better analogy would be:
Sure, I'll sell you a hummer. You can only drive it on this grid-locked road.

My Apple IIgs did. :)
You are confusing this with a port to MIPS.

You could run them with Mac in Linux if you have a partition with OS 9 installed. Then you can have Quicktime, iTunes, iPhoto, etc.
Of course the article is talking about some rack servers so why would you really want that?
Don't watch it at my place. I have a 7-disc changer do we can watch all 4 discs and a couple other movies after that.

While I don't have the money to aquire CMYK, I could contribute to a fund to do so if it existed (and I was made aware of it).
You don't really want me programming anything because my coding is very rudimentary and rough.
I would be happy to help the developer in other ways if they needed it but I 'm not sure what I can offer that they might want.

I already gave it to the IRS.

Much better for me now. I can drive to Dallas(~700 miles) instead of California(~1500 miles)

A post from an AC doesn't make me feel warm and fuzzy that this IP really is a honeypot and not a former employer/bank/gav/etc. they want hacked.
I'm not saying it isn't but I just would have some reservations about it being legit.
It doesn't really matter if they exist anymore or not. Nortel bought all the intelectual properties so now the problem goes to Nortel and beyond.
I think there is one all setup the way you want right here
It's possible that someone is getting paid for having the traffic redirect to Amazon. It could be Amazon directly too though.
