Interesting essay here on statistics and risk taking by Taleb Nassim who seems to been saying for the past couple of years something bad was going to happen.
I'm just pointing out it requires a attitude change, seeing past the short term and actually wanting to create solutions that aid the public sector.
However till there are enough incentives to reward this sort of thinking, you'd expect people to serve their own interest first and to go along with the rest of the crowd picking MS based solutions.
Can you explain how you are sharing the places.sqlite file then ? I've tried a symbolic link on Linux to the same file. The bookmarks are displayed but I cannot alter (add, delete, etc ) them.
Theres a bug here marked WONT FIX for setting a path to the places.sqlite file
If you architect your business intelligence on the platform of a corporation whose business model is to obsolete its platforms every five years at the most, you're an idiot and you deserve to be have your resources drained by this decade's P.T. Barnum until in the ferocious environment of the day you and your grand ideas are forgotten.
In the public sector the objective is to conduct the public's business in such a way that resources are not wasted and required openness can be delivered. It's essential that the public's investment in creating information is well preserved. If you're in the public sector and architect public infrastructure on such a platform as Office 2007 OXML you're worse than incompetent - you're a traitor to the cause of public service.
This is a little idealistic, a lot of people making the decisions simply dont have to clean up the mess personally or will have moved on to another job long before that happens.
In the real world, how many managers do you think know about non MS alternatives and are willing to pick them ?
At the moment I dont need multiple access at the same time, Thanks for the information i'll give that a try soon.
It still feels like overkill having a HTTP server set up with Webdav just to share bookmarks between machines. Also requiring a third party extension for what I could do before, with a single entry in the prefs.js file .
ok, so say its transmitted encrypted then do you think its stored encrypted on the third party server ?
Now if I was running a company theres prolly some value in selling this information on about people's browsing habits and what kind of sites they'd bookmark possibly.
Its kind of amazing how the ability to share bookmarks between multiple computers by simply using the same bookmarks.htm file has been removed with the new bookmarking system in Firefox 3.
I've tried sharing the places.sqlite file between Linux and Windows and it doesn't seem to work correctly and it seems like Mozilla doesn't care at all about this regression.
Having bookmarks stored on third party servers (Mozilla weave, Foxmarks, Google browser sync, Opera's Bookmarks sync, etc ) will always suffer from insecurity mentioned in the last line of the summary.
At least Opera still has the ability to share the bookmarks file between multiple profiles/OS's/PC's.
Also it seems to support the ability to share the bookmark file between a profile in Windows and Linux.
Used to be able to do this in Firefox 2 but it doesn't work in 3. I haven't been able to share the places.sqlite file in Firefox 3 without having issues (unable to alter bookmarks in other OS ).
Using a third party server to hold and sync bookmarks like mozilla weave isn't a solution for me.
Try the foxmarks plugin. I've had a look at this but its not exactly what I'm looking for. I should have added, without using an extension which uses third party servers to store the bookmarks:)
This feels like a regression that isn't going to get fixed for a long time or at all. Maybe I need to start looking at Opera or something.
I used to be able to set the bookmarks.html file location in firefox 2. it seems this functionality doesn't exist for the places.sqlite file. Does anybody have any idea how to share and modify bookmarks between a windows and linux install in Firefox 3 ?
I've tried sharing profiles and places.sqlite between the OS's. Best case i can get is view but can't add any bookmarks in Linux.
The price has dropped quite a bit.

To help fund developers the following steps are being taken.
Facebook has spent $250 million on VR content last year and will spend another $250 million this year (Source : https://www.roadtovr.com/faceb... )
Oculus will pay Unreal Engine royalty fees for titles on their store.

There are quite a few mediocre titles out there, however you could say that about most platforms/ formats.
Does anybody know if this is going to be a problem with all of games using Windows Live ?
I've heard from forums the GTA4 certificate expires in sept this year.
Can anybody confirm this ?

Thanks for clearing that up (even if Google Browser sync is discontinued), I wonder if all of other solutions actually take that approach.

It seems like the people from Mozilla are suggesting use Mozilla Weave as an alternative.
