A question...why is being a fanboy necessarily a bad thing? Do you advocate approaching everything from a perspective of jaded cynicism?
To be completely honest, no. When my biases influence my objectivity, then there's nothing wrong with pointing that out.
Apart from anything else, I simply found myself wondering why the people in question couldn't simply develop their own game, rather than spending time back engineering Blizzard's games.
Because they liked Blizzard's games and wanted to be able to host servers on their own LANs.
I have to believe that given the technical requirements of bnetd itself, they would have had the skill necessary to do such a thing, as well.
They most likely could have, but why reinvent the wheel? What's wrong with them fixing the one thing that they did not like?
but Blizzard are one company that I feel very positive about.
And quite obviously a fanboy.
Be a subversive, anarchic 14 year old, (as in the case of bnetd, WoWGlider, and the D1/D2 hacks) and you'll get what you deserve...the proverbial legal takedown.
What precisely was the problem with bnetd? Other than the technical DMCA infraction, that is. It wasn't used to cheat or to degrade anyone else's experience with online games.
Isn't this rather duplicitious? As I understand it, it's Israel's position that there was no "Palestinian" government nor people at the time of the state's creation.
What I'm hearing sounds an awful lot like "There was no 'Palestinian' government, but it supported the Nazis."
eople have found it convenient to hide a hatred of Jews behind a supposedly reasonable and justified hatred of Israelis.
I don't hate the Israelis. I believe that Israel is a bad ally and that my country's relationship with Israel does more harm than good to me and my countrymen. Your allies don't spy on you. Your allies don't attack your vessels in international waters.
Stuff like that gets reengineered or stolen and then its used against the Israeli elite.
It's not even necessary to steal it. When Israel's right wing determines that someone isn't tough enough on the Palestinians, Mossad will use these to take out their own leaders.
Now we have the Salk Institute, not 5 minutes drive from a Hooters, searching the endless source of chicken wings.
What do we have that is more than 5 minutes drive from a Hooters? Hell, even churches and universities are usually within a 5 minute drive of a Hooters.
No. Myspace censors content all of the time. Although I hate the heavy handed tactics and extortion schemes of the *AA, MySpace couldn't possibly claim to be a common carrier.
MySpace terminates accounts of you post pornographic content. If they can police porno, they can't then claim to be unable to police copyrighted content.
If your business' products are entirely reproducible and then sold for cheap, you cannot sustain a living in such a place.
Gucci and Levi's products are still made and sold at full price despite the fact that you can buy denim pants and purses for much less money by getting knock-offs or legitimate copies.
Because someone wrote a piece of software and decided to give it away instead of charging money for it?
Well, that and that his software has been ported to every major architecture and none too few minor ones. Because even people who don't know who Linus is or have ever heard of Linux are using the software on their set-top DVRs and cell-phones.
RMS isnt entirely grouchy, but its popular to credit him with being so.
I respect RMS as a great visionary, but he has earned his reputation. Did you see Revolution OS? When he was given an award, in stead of just saying "Thank you!", he goes off on a lengthy tangent about the FSF and "GNU/Linux".

People can call me a shill as much as they want,
That, you are.

The first is a mere code-word for the other.
That sir, is bullshit.

Giving them a laptop might make them productive.
Giving them food will make them dependent.
How about they give them a free pick-axe and some seeds with every laptop purchase?
LK
Actually porn is copyrighted content itself, so they just selectively delete copyrighted content that contains nudity, and let the music videos stay.
If someone produces their own pornographic imagery and releases it to the public domain...
Regardless, MySpace's willingness and ability to police one type of content belies any claim that they are powerless to regulate their users' content.
LK
You're right, but it'll never happen.
In the modern western world, anti-zionism has been equated with anti-semitism. And that's the worst thing anyone could be accused of.
LK
If the state of Isreal didn't exist until 1948 then how could they have stolen land in 1940?
If Israel had land in 1940, why did 6 million Jews die during the holocaust when they could have just fled there?
I'm no fan of Israel, but keep it honest.

Because apparently one of the mods has faced the dilemma of trying to choose which woman to date and picking the wrong one.
I didn't need to explain any further.
LK
i've always wondered how much damage i did to the marijuana movement by handing a bunch of stoners a tool that required memorizing a passphrase...
I'm sure that "the man" appreciates your help.

All the musicians you liked then are 15 years older, and lost their hair (like you).
Bitch, I have more hair now than I did 15 years ago.
LK
My goodness, you have some BAD LUCK.
Would you like to play poker some time?
LK
In short, even if this works it's a far cry from *you* being able to go back in time.
I'd settle for being able to send myself a short message.

...OSX an uber-amazing OS that runs on museum-worthy hardware...
Is it cool in here or it it just the fanboy?
LK
Yeah, until someone delivers electricity to my home so cheap that in-home or in-neighborhood electrolysis is cheap.
Then the electric company will become the new energy monopoly.
Or until someone invents an enzyme you can buy at WalMart next to the Rid-X for your septic tank that converts your lawn clippings into ethanol.
Unless you have a REALLY BIG lawn, you won't get enough to do anything useful.
LK
Excellent idea, it'd be ignored by humans and scripts alike.
LK
I used to list mine as lordkaNOSPAM@whatever.com
When the spambots started to strip out the NOSPAM they'd try sending email to lordka@whatever.com, that wasn't me.
Now, I just live with spam filters.
LK
Excellent point.
