I have bought a few things on eBay. I will not buy large ticket items from someone that I don't trust.
I've even bought things from someone in Hong Kong, where the long arm of US law obviously can not reach. He was honest and trustworthy. I was so impressed, I bought from him again.
Red Hat allows access to the source for all GPLed software that they include in their distro. Their CDs also contain programs that are not copyrighted under the GPL. It is not legal to distribute such programs without the consent of the copyright owner. As a result, 200 people can't pool their resources and buy one set of RHEL and then make ISOs available on a web page. (well, at least not legally)
Whitebox linux compiles all of the GPL code in Red Hat and produces ISOs of it. Those ISOs will not contain any non GPLed app included with Red Hat.
It's a BIOS. What good would making it GNU/BIOS do?
It would keep "Trusted Computing" initiatives from locking out Linux and other Free/OSS.
More importantly, what good will it do for the motherboard companies?
Today? Nothing. If the day comes that "Trusted Computing" becomes the norm, it would allow any motherboard vendor who had such an option to continue to sell products to linux users.
Fortunately we don't all have the same needs. The diversity of the marketplace means that there is room for both approaches. This also results in a greater number of choices for us.
BTW, I am under the impression the Matrox still makes some kick ass OpenGL cards for the HIGH END.
As of this afternoon we were playing DOOM 3 on a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 box with a GeForce 4 MX440 video card and having a surprisingly good gaming experience.
I've got a faster processor and the same video card. I'm in business baby!
I will probably need a new hard drive though, I'm almost out of space.
so that the MPAA goon squads can kick your out and confiscate your phone before you can text all of your friends and warn them not to waste their money of whatever shitty movie you had the misfortune of seeing first.
A huge difference is that the big label music that is out there doesn't have a direct competitor.
Try buying the CD of an Indy band from Pittsburgh if you're in Chicago. Sure, you can find a website IF you know who you're looking for.
Free software isn't perfect yet, and there isn't a direct replacement for every commercial app out there, but the marketplace is gaining new options every week.
When we get to the day where even low end systems at Walmart have dual core CPUs powering them, we will also have much more free software available to supplment costly proprietary software.
When you leave your "religion"[1] out of your professional life, does this mean that if your "religion" says it's wrong to lie, but your profession requires you to lie, eg to make that sale or close that deal, that you will do what your profession requires?
No, it means that I even though my ethics are not for sale, I do not preach to others.
I was required to lie as a part of the last job I had (before I became self employed) and I refused. The short of it is this, I worked for a compant called Precision Response Corporation (PRC) and we were not permitted to tell our customers when the computers were down or malfunctioning, we were told we had to tell them that "My computer is updating" and that they will need to call back in. I refused to lie, for any reason. My job was threatened, I told them that if they wanted to fire me for refusing to lie, I wouldn't have a problem collecting unemployment. A part of the reason why I was hired was because of my ethics, I won't lie to my boss, I won't steal from my boss, I won't lie to a customer, I won't steal from a customer. My ethics are not for sale. At the end of the day, they would look a lot worse in the eyes of the public than I would to my next potential employer.
They pretty much dropped the issue, but when the next round of layoffs came, I was one of the people to get the ax.
I have no regrets about my decision to stick to my principles.
At the same time though, I didn't try to convince anyone else that it was wrong to submit to managerial pressure and lie to customers.
I'm not ashamed to admit that "Linux for Dummies" graces my shelves. Even if you will eventually sift through tons of BS, they give you a good foundation to get started.
Negrodamus gets another one right.

Why doesn't Michel Moore go after these people? It seems to be just as target rich an environment as his current subject area.... :-)
Because to tell the story won't hurt President Bush.
LK
Can't you guys come up with your own programme ideas instead of constantly using ours? :-P
Well, the original spin that we put on these shows is that the people in them have nice teeth.
LK
Wasn't that originally done by Dave Chapelle as a SPOOF on reality TV? Ugh...
Sort of. Dave did a skit about a show called "Trading Spouses" and now Fox has created an actual show with the same title.
I hope Dave Chappelle is getting some money out of it.

-- Remember Christine Watkins
A Google search turned up this Christine Watkins, her best lifts are "65kg Snatch, 82.5kg Clean and Jerk".
Sounds like my kinda woman.

Unreal 3 runs faster on the GeForce too!
Unreal 3? You've got a GeForce that runs unwritten software?
Oh, you must be talking about Unreal Engine 3. I get it now.

Just for that smart ass remark, I WILL vote Republican this fall.

That's the only excuse.

Also, regarding the "silent" option, the problem is that the person's voice answering the damn phone isn't silent.
Um, we were talking about sending text messages. You don't need to use your voice for that.
LK
My phone has a "silent" option, how about yours?
As long as they're being quiet, I don't care what they're doing.

Once I dropped my cellphone into a 2 foot snow drift. I had to keep calling it and sifting through the piles of snow in my driveway. That sucked ass.
