The invasion by giant ants from another dimension opened by a gateway created by a particle accelerator is prevented once again. Such is the plot of Einstein's Bridge by John Cramer. Luckily the SSC was never built. West Texas has enough problems with fire ants without the giant alien kind.
...seems to be storing and transporting energy. Its too bad all the good places for wind power happen to be out in the middle of nowhere. By the time you get the lines built and the extra power needed to send it hundreds of miles your project is even less profitable. Too bad Tesla's Wardenclyffe tower didn't catch on.
From what I can tell, no one has found a replicable cause for the "acceleration problem." I'm guessing that a few of these accidents were caused by the biological part that connects the gas pedal, seat, and steering wheel. Still, telling someone that lost four members of their family that the cause was user error just isn't good PR. Floor mats, pedal assemblies, and the firmware update are fake solutions to solve a PR problem, not an engineering problem.
To the US media industry, piracy is anything that does not make them money. Making your own YouTube video. That's piracy. Using open source software: piracy. In the Demolition Man future even a snug with the misses will be piracy if you don't use their DRMed interface gadget (which pay on a per use and per monthly basis).
The document had already gotten out into the wild. That it was restricted only made it more popular and there were plenty of places to get it besides Cryptome. All MS was doing was generating more bad publicity for itself.
Institution of International Pathetic Asshats. Here is what that haven of piracy Canada has to say about it when they were put on the list: "Canada does not recognize the Special 301 process due to its lacking of reliable and objective analysis, and we have raised this issue regularly with the U.S. in our bilateral discussions." Even our mild mannered neighborino to the North told them to go suck an egg. I have yet to see any reason why being on that list should bother a country in the slightest.
"The nation's security council discussed the breach and expressed concern that only 50 percent of the country's 175 state-run data systems have security oversight. President Valdis Zatlers called for immediate action to install proper security on all systems.
Computer experts concluded that the breach did not constitute a cyber-attack and was the result of poorly developed software and systems management."

I'd hate to be that CIO.
OMG!! Some super virus has been unleashed on the Internet and can't be contained by firewalls, routers, or anti-virus measures! How do we stop it? They might as well game out a scenario where all door locks suddenly stop working.
Ours uses ADTs, Data Structures, and Problem Solving with C++ Second Edition by Larry Nyhoff. It may be too simplistic for an accomplished amateur, but it does go beyond basic control structures. You can get previous editions of used text books fairly cheap. There usually isn't much new in a new edition. It is mostly a scam to enrich text book producers.
The whole thing is pretty stupid. It doesn't say there is a specific weakness in security, but rather assumes some hypothetical attack that is immediately successful and is able to bypass any and all security measures. It is like running a bank vault security check using the chick from X-Men who can walk through walls as your test intruder. The take away is that a handful of random political people who don't manage IT infrastructure don't know anything about managing IT infrastructure. That won't stop the sensationalist headlines though. Some might suspect that is the whole idea. These days "bipartisan" doesn't mean what it used to mean.
The Verified by Visa thing comes up after I try to place an order on NewEgg. Thing is, if I don't bother with it and browse to another page when the VbV window comes up the transaction goes through anyway. This means Visa is trying to verify a transaction that has already taken place.
I agree with elrous0. Any respect I had for McCain has become disgust. He has sold his soul to the very worst aspects of the Republican party.
Oh, and McCain's web consultants are not the sharpest tools in the shed. They put unmoderated comments on their swag sales. Some of the ones for McCain golf balls were funny as hell. Balloon Juice caught some of them before they took them down.

"How was last year's World Toilet Summit?" "Pretty crappy."
The Portal 2 is a lie!

Many of these politicos could care less about "vision." What they are really upset about is losing high paying jobs and projects in their districts.
He did kinda start the whole scientific revolution thingy. That might have a little to do with nuclear physics.

Actually they will have LAN play... ...but it runs on IPX.
After all we did that to the Russians in the 80's causing one of their large oil pipelines to explode. Does it make you feel better that Microsoft gave China a peek at the full source code for Windows? http://www.builderau.com.au/architect/work/soa/US-software-blew-up-Russian-gas-pipeline-/0,339024596,320283135,00.htm
