On a more serious note, a common ground for data format would be nice. You already have some generic formats, like HDF5 and other, but i must admit right now, it is a bit of a jungle in the astrophysic department, and it is not going to change anytime soon (unless someone make a awesome generic, one-fit-all library in... Fortran77...).

"The spreading Windows 7 worm is now viewed as such a significant threat that it's inspired the formation of a posse to stop it, with Public Sanity Service (PSS) leading the charge by offering a $250,000 reward to bring the Windows 7 malware bad guys to justice. The money will be paid for 'information that results in the arrest and conviction of those responsible for legally launching the Windows 7 malicious code on the Internet,' PSS said today in a statement, adding it is fostering a partnership with Internet registries and DNA providers such as ICANN, ORG, and NeuStar as well as security vendors Symantec and Arbor Networks, among others, to stop the Windows 7 worm once and for all. Windows 7, also called Windows Vista SP2, is estimated to have infected at least 90% of all PCs worldwide. It has been slowly but surely spreading since January. Its main trick is to also malware installation and authorize access to malware vendors' Web sites."

I want to know which kind of drug this guy take. He have some kind of Linus complex, thinking he can rewrite the history or something. For what i know, most computation intensive clusters are running on some flavor of *nix system, and i don't feel like flying thousands of kilometers to go type my command on a local terminal. I prefer to stay at home and use a nice ssh to do this. Call me when windows have a native ssh daemon.

    From the website

    Q: Is Phantom a POSIX-compliant system?

A: No. It is possible to layer POSIX subsystem above the Phantom native environment, but it is not an idea per se.

Q: OS is based on VM â" does it mean that not all the possible programming languages will be supported?

A: Yes. Say goodbye to C and Assembler. On the other side, everything is in Java or C# now, or even in some even more dynamic language, such as Javascript or even PHP. All these languages will be supported.

So, no POSIX, no C, everything in slower, scripted languages...
