Not those of us that live in a rural area. When one has to put up a 200 foot tower, with beam antenna, amp, and 600LMR cable just to get EV-DO access, and that is intermittent, because the only option is dial-up at 18k on a good day, one does not take it for granted.
Crichton's books all have a common theme, and that is to warn that we have to move forward with care. The warning in Andromeda Strain was that we could bring something back from space that we were not prepared to deal with by either immune system, or technology. Terminal Man warned of the dangers of trusting completely in technology, specifically computers. Westworld also warned of autonomous systems. It continues in all his work. His books are more like Aesop's Fables. Calling him a hack indicates you missed the point.
The USA is simply doomed. I live outside the USA, and I can assure you, the rest of the world is }{ close to pulling the plug on the USA, economically, diplomatically, socially, the whole works.
Oh, horseshit. I can understand that you don't like what our leaders have done. Hell's bells, I don't like what they have done. But, don't give me this pull-the-plug crap. Everyone knows that China will be more than happy to continue making junk for McDonalds and Wal Mart. Everyone knows that when Mother Nature shits all over some part of the world, aid from the US will not be turned down.
If you are waiting for the US to become a perfect country, you are in for a long and painful wait. Sometimes we do better, sometimes we do worse. So, when you bitch about the Caddy, you better include all the other impractical cars made around the world. When you whine about Vegas, better include Dubai and the Palm Islands.
Sheesh. I normally don't go off like that on people that know Firesign Theater.
And yet we have the Iranians after one of their ministers because he lied about having an honorary degree from Oxford. Politics is politics, only the slant of the story gets changed.
In politics, experience is not necessary in the first person, such as "our candidate." It is only in the third person, "their candidate", that experience is a requirement.
I think the only thing that was not as it seems in "Goldfinger" was Gert Frobe's voice. I believe it was a later movie where there was a transsexual; a Roger Moore movie.
I don't know about Mars rovers, but here on Earth, there radio systems that need to be kept warm, or they drift off frequency. Next spring, it would be hard to wake up the rover if it can't hear the alarm clock ringing.
Two of the smartest people I have ever met married and began cranking out kids. They now have one of the biggest collection of marginal morons you have ever seen. Nice kids, yes. Well behaved kids, yes.
But they don't have the sense God gave a herd of cows. All I can figure is that the parents IQ waves were 180 degrees out of phase.
Either that, or they are putting on one helluva show when company is around.
unfortunately people don't see other cars either. i ride/drive *every* vehicle i own as if everyone else doesn't see me.
Agreed. USAA Magazine once ran a column where they said that at any given time, there is better than a 50 percent chance that the other driver is drunk, stoned, fatigued, or otherwise incapacitated or distracted.
As far as car drivers making mistakes, I have been on both sides. I pulled out in front of a bike once. Fortunately, he was not one of the 50 percent above, and all it did was piss him off. In this case, his headlight was not on, but it taught me to look, not just glance.
The flip side was that I had a woman in a Caddy pull out in front of me (karma?). I was wearing a blaze orange jacket, and I swear we made eye contact, but it didn't make any difference. At least when I did it, I stopped and apologized. She never looked back.
take fast internet for granted.

Shame it was an AC post. Now I don't know who to ignore.
Those are great! I really like the one with the old woman who talks like she was hooked ... up... to ... a ... metronome.
Wow. $100? I have seen Rossignol stuff used for less than $50!
Congratulations! You found the Easter egg!

Yeah. That's why the first line in my .profile, .login, or .setup was always "mesg n". It stopped "force" as well.
Rogue. Definitely rogue.
I wonder if he could be transferred to an Alaska prison...
Nah. Just put him in a cell with an ex-lawyer from Florida.

What we need is an idiot amendment that would prevent them from running, not from voting.

JUST TYPE IT ALL IN CAPS!

You pulled out too soon.

It works, but not nearly as well as in the Bond movie. But, that's the point, isn't it?
Honor Blackman was my least favorite of all the Bond girls. Now, her Flying Circus pilots were another story!

I have found nothing useful in twitter. This is not the revelation that will change my mind.
Close, but no, Cigar.
I may be IN texas, but I am not FROM texas.
Nah. Just take the cash and put it in your freezer.

I makes no sense....
Your words, not mine, but I agree.
