  3. Free software is needed badly in schools on Microsoft and the U.S. School System · · Score: 1
I meet alot of fresh out of school types that have some geek skills, and they're all fed Microsoft, and when they seem to know some shit I'll start talking Linux with them and they almost always say how it's crap compared to Windows and nothing comes close to Bills magic OS of wonder.

    Can you say "Brainwash" ?

One kid I meat was all pumped about doing Unix SysAdmin work for a living yet said to me "It pays better that windows work but it's not as good an Windows." I wanted to burn him, he then continued to argue the point that Windows, not just NT/2000 but 95/98/ME also, was better and MORE SECURE than any *nix OS, I then kindly changed the discusson to gaming, but then he hadn't heard of Counter Strike so I left.

So bombard local schools with info on NTs weakness, and Linux freeness and security, and hopefully we can stop shit like that kid from ever being spawned again.

Also that kid had been kicked out of school for breaking into the schools NT network from home, if he did that, how could he claim it was so secure right out of the box like he did? he couldn't answer me that one. But just continued to say "Trust me, it is." Isn't that what Bill always says "just trust ME" *grin*

goddam weazely fuck, i'd like to kick him in the beanbag...another nice start to a day ruined by MS *sigh*

Why not make a filtering method that can rather than just block the cookie, communitate with the cookie, have a section of the cookie be a message explaining to the filtering software what the cookie does where its from, etc... and display this to the user. Sure some sites could lie about what the cookie is actually doing, but in the case of my former employer, a online stock trading site, they use a cookie to time your login time, which expired after an hour. So when people block cookies they can't get logged in and they called us mad as hell that we wouldn't let them log in, this way if they're filtering cookies with this method, they would see that that cookie is used to log them in and only that. Any feedback people?

  12. Open source = Cheap solution on Microsoft, Unisys & Dell To Make New Voting System · · Score: 1
I say it should be made on Linux or Unix or whatever, for all the obvious reasons:

They always say the cost of such a system would be huge, well if you use MS and Dell, it sure as hell will be, they're in the buisness of making crap cost far to much, with these 2 in the picture the computers this needs to run on are going to be big bucks compared to what you can work with if you use Linux.

They also say the hardware would sit for long periods of time, well i say with an open source, FREE approach it can run on low end, i.e. *cheap* computers. How many geeks here have an old 386 they could donate for use? I have a old DX4 100Mhz Compaq they can have, its great for Linux, but crawls on anything MS put out newer than DOS.

So lts do this: create an open source solution and gather up old slow machines that can run it, simple and even Free/ low costs, theres always going to be a large number of slow/obsolete computers available, lets put them to use stopping frauds like G.W. Bush

I see some calling for protests to this, but why just stand in front of their doors? Why just call your congressman? Why not do all that and more? Why not bring them down crying on their knees, how? Well as Sir Simon Milligan and Hecubus would say, Evil!

I won't list anything specific, 'cos I'm sure the FBI would be here in a flash, but how about this: Link to HD manufacturers websites on /. and watch them fall to the /. effect! Better yet make a pop-up window that appears when you pull up /. it loads their web sites automatically; the number of hits they'd get per day would cripple them! Why not through in the RIAA and MPAA sites also?

And for you 31337 doodz of /. I want to see some web site defacing! "Maxtor" becomes "Max-whore" or "IBM" as "gee maybe we shouldn't supported that whole HD thing." Remember, if Sir Simon Milligan wouldn't say "Evil!" when he saw it, it's not worth doing.

I'm sure there are even more creative, and evil ways to fight this evil, use them! Don't stop short at any point, the only time we fail is when we've done nothing and let them walk all over us, there is no court in any civilized country that will rule in favor of "intellectual rights" before human rights. When you buy that new 60GB hard drive It becomes your property, they can't tell you what you can and cannot do with it

But also don't forget to also stop buying their products, or better yet, steal them! "Evil!" I don't expect this would last long if we'd strike back, and strike back hard, we have the tools, and the power, and with great power comes great responsibility. If one has great power they then have the responsibility to do great things.

I had a Tech support job where I dealt with AOL and Time-Warners Roadrunner server daily, and almost everytime these people called, we sent them to AOL or Roadrunner tech support, and these customers are so brainwashed that after yelling at us that because thats all we ever do, blame it on Roadrunner or AOL. Well I'm sorry, but they are shit. I supported and on-line stock trading web site, and try explaining to these people that if they're concerned about their on-line security using AOL is probably not a good choice, and they always said something like "20 million AOL customers can't be wrong"

So will it get better when you combine Americas #1 online service and #1 cable modem service? Well, at least AOL will not be able to auto disconnect it's broadband customers after so many minutes, my feeling is it's just going to deliver the same old shit and spam, at higher speeds. wahoo.
