    Fascism is a brand of socialism. If you want to fear Fascism, go fear your nearest socialist getting any more power then they already have.

    The Pres is NEVER voted in by popular vote. To become POTUS, the delegates of the Electorial College have to elected the person. Nixon could have been a soar loser to JFK, but he bowed out of it in an honorable method. No demanding recounts in Chicago which could have thrown Ill back Nixon because Nixon didn't want to look like a soar loser. Pity Gore didn't have that type of style.

    The whole issue of IE intergration is a red hearring. Dual Boot issue should have been the main charge of monopolistic practices. IMO, I really don't care if M$ walks cleanly away. I have Linux, what the hell do I need M$ for?

    As far as the other charges of homeless, hunger, health, you better look at the previous administration cuz Bush hasn't changed a damn thing yet as he is continuing Clinton/Gore's policies. That's right, Clinton signed all the above into law. After 8 years of Cliton, the US has nothing to show for it, and that is real shame.

    The trademark issues can be gotten around by Lucas issuing licenses to individual fan films for some nominal fee that just covers expenses. That would allow the creativity to be released and still securing his rights. That is IF that is what he wants and not just Dark Side issues such as absolute control that he can get away with under current law.

    I'm hoping after the last episode (ie he's squeezed the last drop of profit out of that franchise) he will allow/fund movies like Troops, which IMO, is better then half of Lucas' films...

    1. Campaign Finance Reform means nothing when you have atleast one (namely the Dems) party who violates, at will, current campaign finance laws already on the book. They are going to bother to obey new laws? Get real.

    2. It is the reason that Slashdotters should be screaming against CFR, it will shut down small groups from naming buttheads like Howlings 60 days prior to election day. Is that a good idea? Oh wait, that doesn't apply to Unions. So the media bias comes into play (minus Fox News, they are atleast fair) unlike PBS, CBS and the rest of the "Bias Factor") 60 days before a vote and the Unions get to spend their hundreds of miliions supporting Democrat candidates.

    3. If you thought MPAA was bad about DeCSS linking on /., just wait till Federal Election Commission get's their hands on /. for illegal campaigning 60 days prior to an election day.

    No, Matt has gone into a fairly decent length of posting on how piss poor Hyperion is handling HyperOS4. I mearly yield to his knowledge on this matter.

    However, Hyperion is not know for it's OS work, nor have they done anything remotely like this before. It would like handing the Studio's makeup artist the role of Producer and Director of a major film.

    I'm not sure about AmigaXL, but Amithlon can be (guess it was designed as) a developement platform. Much like how Mac did their OS-X. And it's x86 friendly already so cheap hardware can be used.

    We will have to dissagree then. Amiga isn't putting a penny into HyperOS4 and Hyperion is taking all the financial risks with no financial help from Amiga. Amiga is set to make money, if HyperOS4 doesn't bomb. That's a pretty nice little deal for Amiga, isn't? They don't put a single penny into this and they can sit back and rake in the royalities.

    Your assuming that Hyperion is capable of producing an OS. If you take a look on moobunny on some of the threads talking about Hyperion's post on the subject, your going to see quiet clearly that Hyperion doesn't know what the hell they are doing.

    If I were you, I would be hoping that either Amithlon, AmigaXL, AROS or MorphOS can pull something off that will lead to a stable and positive developemental future.

    Simple answer, no. This DEad is more of a .com business trying to sucker developers in so they can sucker OEMs into contract$.

    If your more into the Amiga OS, I suggest you take a look at Amithlon, AROS, AmigaXL or MorphOS.

    Now if your really into a OS developed by a game porting company (that as the official Amiga badge), your in luck. HyperOS4 should be out this year.

    If I'm not mistaken, the only info about Amiga (or as I perfer to call them, "The Name" Inc) on Sharp is on the Amiga's home page. Funny how Sharp doesn't mention squat about DEad, but "The Name" has been crowing about it.

    One has to wonder, why even bother buying such a product as DEad? Do you really want to run a PDA application on your desktop with PDA resolutions?

    Gore's student tax break is a bunch of bull once you take a look at it. It's $10K, off the top of gross wages, *not* off the final tax itself. Worse yet, there is already up to $2K in tax relief in place now so in the BEST case, Gore's student tax relief is an additional $800 on top of the existing $2000. Oh yeah, it's only applied to ONE student in the family. Gore's tax plan means to the average college student nothing. Ah, the smoke and mirrors of the clinton/gore admin at it's finest.

    No, Gore would be even worse. His attempts of hiding his email from law enforcement and claim it was due to SNAFU is at best laughable. Then again, the "Founder of the Internet" did fail out of two colleges, so who knows. He might be (for a change) tell the truth. Let us hope he didn't sell out the Free World in those secret Gore-Russian deals he made that the White House now refuses to turn over to Congress, as required by law.

    The Second Amendment is our *last* option and should not be taken lightly. What is needed is focus on individuality and self reliance instead of "What can the government give me?" mentality that has become so prevelent in today's society. One of the things I do like about Bush is his first step on privatation of Social Security with a whimpy 2% going into individual choice investments. That may not seem alot, but to the younger /. readers, that could means a lump some of cash at retirement yielding in the upper six digits besides SS payments. If you really want to see something that scares the beejeebers out of a socialist, check out Private Social Security Calculator.

    If never used an Amiga, your missing an interesting experience of tight intergration of software and hardware. It still amazes me what the orginal Amigas could do on such limited technology.

    I have extreme doubts that there will be much of any connection of this Elate based OS and the orginal system other then, "The Name." I can only assume by what the orginal article said about producing WB (workbench) 3.9 and WB 4.0 is that this Elate based OS is behind schedule and Amiga.con (oops, did I do a typo?:) is using the promise of new WB releases to keep the zealots amused. I guess those zealots can be kept in line with a few Press Releases, they already have over looked that there will be no memory protection nor multiuser for some time, if ever.

    You would be correct if this was a zero sum gain system which it is not. Kennedy (FJK) Economics clearly has shown that money returned to those who make will will reinvest it making a strong economy. Reagan who used Kennedy's fiscal planning during the 80's had a much stronger economic growth % then what we have seen in the 90's (guess it helps not having the economy so closely tied to the NYSE). Problem Reagan had, the US Congress was controlled by those who spent money faster then it was being confiscated and spead up deficit spending. If you take a look at US Government's revenue from Reagan years, you will see that revenues nearly doubled under administration because we had tax cuts and high growth, yet with low inflation.

    To answer your question, yes you can pay down the house morgage faster then the note requires or you can plow that extra money into investments that generates more money. If I can double my revenue via different revenue streams, how worried should I be when I was paying the morgage at half the revenue?

    It appears that QSSL is opening the door to the desktop market while maintaining it's attention on the embedded market. This allows groups such as Phoenix Consortium to have a good deal of input on what is needed in desktop enviroment.

    As for Be, last time I looked, their stock price was at 4 9/16, down from something in the 50's earlier this year. I don't have much hopes for Be to survive the next 12 or so months.

    The problem they've attempted to sugar coat over is the lack of memory protection (although they promised it in the future which I'll believe when I see it) and no multiuser. As a recovering Amigan living in the Linux world, those two items are a complete show stopper for me.

    Oh why did Fleeky have to screw up that QNX deal they had...

    Or the orginal 22x faster is yet another Amiga.com's SNAFUs. I really doubt that Gary Peake would give out incorrect information just to calm down the Amiga community. That's not Gary's style and I personally trust Gary not spread such disinformation for any reason.

    Which then begs a question on Amiga.com's commitment to releasing open source with their playing fast and loose with GPL license terminology. It will be an interesting time for Amiga/Tao if JF Waite did indeed submit a complaint against Amiga/Tao for GPL violation to FSF and of course, our beloved /. community.

    Although I have no idea what Amiga/Tao JVM has to do with ultra low CPU power article, Amiga.com's Gary Peake stated in Comp.Sys.Amiga.Misc it's 22% faster, not 22x faster.

    The main article I'm waiting to see on /. that deals with Amiga/Tao is possible GPL violations article supposedly submit by J.F. Waite (as well as supposedly submited to FSF) after his request for source code was more or less snubbed directly by Amiga.com's Rudi. Pity that a software/IP company feels it can weave and dodge the GPL bullet.
