It's those engineers and support personnel who are about to be out of a job in those states are the ones that need Ares funded. Although I do support the commercialization of space and getting NASA out of the manned LEO rides, I can sympathize with those who are about to be unemployed because of the budget reversal. My memories goes back to the mid 1970s when my father and his friends lost their jobs when Apollo 17 completed it's mission.

Can I blame those GOP Senators for pushing for funding to keep jobs in their state? Nope, sure can't. Do I think it should be funded, nope, sure don't.

  5. Re:Obama policies lead to higher unemployment! on Astronaut Careers May Stall Without the Shuttle · · Score: 1

First rule of thumb, if NASA can botch something, they will. SST was a disaster from what was promised (what was it, 30 day turn around @ vehicle? Weekly launches and I forget what the cost @ pound they were initially spouting, damn crooks), the years worth of delays and the lack of employment of those who were layed off after Apollo 17 (that would include my late father) mission. Challenger disaster that was needless, the botched search for the crew cabin (which was found within a square mile of where Patrick AFB told them to look in the first place, but NASA went else where first), the disgraceful recovery and transportation of the crew's remains once they did find the crew cabin. Then the Columbia disaster just underscored NASA management's lack of caring or understanding how delicate these old vehicles are even after Challenger's review.

I guess one should have expected this type of dismal failure when the US Government think it can run an space agency like a airline. Basically that would have been the fate of commercial air transportation if the US military would have had a strangle hold on it and not allowed the first airlines to form and fly cargo and passengers. I seldom agree with Obama on anything, but getting NASA out of the man space transportation loop is painful, but it needs to be done to allow people like Rutan to step up to the plate for a try. Next time your at the airport for a flight, try to imagine as a civilian having the choice of train, bus, or car if USAF wouldn't secure you a seat to fly on the only operational air transportation system, theirs. That's if they are going to the nearest military base where you need to go.

This is what Obama claims as the first phase of health care reform. There are more phases to come including government run health insurance which will kill off the 13,000 health insurance companies. As a former Federal employee (and I do miss my benefits), the idea of the Feds controlling health care from womb to tomb has me very scared.

Let me put it to you this way, if your employer had a choice of paying 8% tax to cover your health care to Medicaid or paying more to pay for your current health care insurance, what do you think they are going to decide on? That will be their choice in the coming years under Obamacare. Worse yet, more GPs are looking to exit the health care field if this goes through because they will not be making the money they are use to. Is it a bluff or are they telling us the truth of what will happen?

We either subcontact out to the Russians or let private industry build up on their own for commercial man space flight. It really depends on the owners/executives of the MLM and the compensation plan. There are some really awful ones out there that are pure scams. There are ones out there that management is OK, just the compensation plan are awful. Trick is finding a MLM that has owners/management that have integrity that treat the distributors fairly for their work with a workable business plan to use.

Then you have people who think it's easy money (it's not, it requires real work) and fail to follow the business plan set up by people who are alot smarter then they are then cry about not being successful. Or they want to be babied by their sponsors and can not work without constant supervision. Like all sales, it's matter of falling through with commitment and dedication through the awful time of learning a new job. Those with fire in the belly will succeed if they are with the right product/management/compensation plan/business plan. It's hard work but it can be a whole lot of fun too.

For me, it allowed me to work from home to take care of family. I would never return carrying mail for USPS, I do not want someone else controlling me like that ever again.
