real zoom requires additional information, ie higher resolution than tv is capable of displaying. all attempts at "simulation" of higher resolution will result in digital zoom artifacts, that we all are familiar with.
unless tv has lower resolution than broadcast quality this is as fake as 200X DIGITAL ZOOM.
Competition is great, I would love to get a smart phone that runs linux based kernel and allows for development without strings attached. Currently, Symbian phones are difficult to debug for. Microsoft phones... I won't even go into that.
Some phone manufacturers are attempting to lock users from installing their own custom software, some are trying to prevent people writing for the phones without paying royalties (signed apps).
Power to the user, if I can tweak with my phone as much as I can do with my pc - it's all good news.
I just hope it won't take minutes to boot like my Fedora Core 2 at the moment;)
I suppose percent of Internet Explorer would be somehow less if Opera didn't set it's default user agent string to MSIE 6.0. Why they did that is beyond me, it definitely mangles the statistics out there.
I spoke about MMS, which is very different and in fact a SMIL page with references to encoded content. There is a big area of possible exploits - wave playing, gif animations, text formatting and so on.
That computer market is not as big as market for fancy typewriters and internet terminals?
I actually do enjoy tech race in mobile phone area and can envisage time when your phone will be the primary computing device.
I do use my SX1 as music player. It plays OGGs in stereo - no need for me to get ipod. My 256mb memory card holds all the music I need at the moment. When that runs out, I'll just get a bigger one. I have my contacts, calendar events and so on here with me at all times.
Of course there are people who use phones just to make phone calls. Like there are people who use computers to take care of accounts and compute taxes. It does not mean that phones have to freeze features. You just have to buy an older model (cheaper too, NEAT!)
Really, this does not prove anything. It doesn't exploit any weakness in the system and very easy to avoid.
I am not sure how many of people who have posted before actually OWN series 60 device, but let me assure you that it's not as simple as accepting somebody's bluetooth transfer.
First of all, you must have bluetooth always on and your device available to all, which is really bad idea considering that it eats your battery much faster. Battery life of the series 60 devices is pretty small as is. Having bluetooth on is sure way to kill it further.
Second, you will have to go through few steps of actually INSTALLING unsigned application. This is VERY intrusive.
Third, this thing does not auto startup. So, when your device is drained off battery, it won't run by itself as far as I can see.
All in all, very poor attempt to create a malware for Series 60. I am sure you can get much higher propagation by installing an autoexec worm inside of S60 warez releases.
Other avenue to look into is malformed MMS message that does buffer overrun and allows to execute arbitrary code. Now this would be a real baddy because you will be infected as soon as you open a message.
I like the resolution and all, but in all seriousness... with ever decreasing space for our living, this is not exactly customer product. Your 68" tv does not need such high resolution, I hardly have space to put my 5.1 system in the 2 bedroom condo I am staying in...
Even if the price is within our reach, this piece of technology is going to be left to corporations and ultra rich people with lots of real estate. I fail to see point of having this, except for new digital cinemas.
My god, watching the latest holycrud with mind boggling resolution...
Excuse me? One university gives up on spam filtering for questionable reasons and you declare death of email? Weird, I still do most of my communication via email. My servers all run spam marking services and my client filters out the junk as soon as it's retrieved.
Of course more bandwidth is wasted on spam mails, but since I don't see much of it, it doesn't bother me so much.
What do you propose to use instead of email? instant messaging? Talk about waste of time:)
Unlike displays we are using to watch movies and play games, e-paper does not need insane refresh rates and even if it's 5 frames per second, allows for better quality reading due to very high contrast ratios.
Remember that this is black and white (at best greyscale) technology primarly designed for reading text. It will definitely be faster to change page than for you to flip the page of the book when reading.
I can't wait to get my hands on those. E-books are finally readable:)
Many people have received letters from RIAA and alike. Is it possible legally to make such people join this case? I mean let's say 100 people who received a letter from RIAA and don't want to pay join under one banner to countersue? I am sure weight of the group would be greater than an individual and damages sought can be greater.
There is a project that russians were working on awhile back. It is shuttle like and was tested number of times during cold war. I suppose most of people here wouldn't know about it ala Lunokhod.
New project based on that technology is MAKS (mnogocelevaya aviacionno-kosmicheskaya sistema) which claims to be able to reduce cost per kilogram down to 1K usd. (from 12-15 nowdays). It's not space elevator, but definitely more possible at this time.

And after WGF 9.0 they'll finally release OpenGL compatible standard! WOOHOO! :)

Nice try, but no cake.

THEY ARE JUST AS BAD AS EACH OTHER!!!
You can't remove neither from your computer once it's installed. Except for fdisk / format.
Seriously though, for Baseball it's probably better to distribute content in windows media format. At least MS player is not as braindead as Real187.
