The point that most people miss with lotteries is the potential they have to change your life. A standard risk of $2 on a lottery may for that insignificant amount of money, permanently change your life. While the odds are stacked massively against you, the small risk for the massive reward and the potential for lifelong effects can overwhelm the actual % chance of return.
I have to say that I was so disappointed by the sequels compared to the simplicity and variety of the original that I'm afraid for any further sequel. I felt that Braden and Bell tried to expand the game too much for what the capabilities of systems were at the time. It'd be nice to see what they can do with the flexibility of modern systems.
How has this been modded informative? Do you understand nothing about code breaking? (and cryptogeeks, I am talking about codes, not ciphers). You match up codewords with their meaning through observation or trickery. A classic example was the use of an in the clear message about a desalination plant to identify Midway as target AF during WW2. http://www.history.navy.mil/faqs/faq81-3.htm
when will the human race accept that there is no true and simple moral dichotomy of good and evil. They are over-simplifications generally used in an attempt to manipulate peoples reactions to a set of circumstances.
"Baby killers are evil!"
"Muslims are evil!"
"Americans are evil!"
Anyone with an ounce of sense knows that there is both truth and fiction in all 3 of those statements.
The problem is that the technology is being introduced to subvert "unfriendly" governments, our present regime.... errr, government in Australia is about as friendly with the US as any nation ever gets.
I have an overwhelming hatred of "Human Resources" (or Human Grief-Sources). Having worked in the mining industry where a resource is exploited, it's quite obvious that most HR people feel the same way about their resources...
What am I missing here? How can reducing your customer base make any kind of business sense? I understand that distribution costs will be higher on smaller consignments but unless your profit margin is exceedingly slim this can't be a wise decision.
I'm obviously missing something here, how can this business model work when you're reducing your customer base?
I realise that Walmart has the buying power but if they've paid for some sort of exclusivity deal then surely that adds expense back into their purchases unnecessarily?
Hmmmm lets consider the "for" and "against" lobby's here:
For - a majority of the scientific community, most sensible thinkers.
Against - A small minority of sceptical scientists who on the whole tend not to be climatologists... and that nutbag down the road who lives in his mother's basement and believes that JFK was assassinated by time travelling Nazi robots sent back by the NWO in league with the communist vampires, controlled by the Zionist overlords.
It's still cheating though, and the people that hack and sell these online profiles are likely to also attempt to phish account and credit card details at some time. Play any games with hackable accounts that are worth something? Then you may end up being a target for these idiots.
Wouldn't you get a company called OCP come along and try to devalue land even further, so that they could create cyborg/zombie police officers and mechanised devices called ED-209 to further their plan to build New Detroit?
That's just how I think it would happen...
...and I am one of the people employed by a regulatory state agency to oversee the activities of organisations like those mentioned above. Australia has some of the most stringent regulations put into place to ensure integrity and to remove the risk of money laundering. Although I'm not really involved in the taxation side of things I'm intrigued by your statement "our system already supports geographic distribution of taxes, based on the location of the account holder". It supports it maybe, but as I understand the current situation the taxes still all go to the host state of the site in question and not the state of origin of the account.
I love the fact that the post above got modded "Informative". For all of you non-Australians out there who need some futrher information on drop bears, here it is.

All I get is an "interstitial ad" that counts down from 40, then starts over again. And again.
WTF?
This is /.
Why would you want to RTFA?

If I hear my housemate's PC say "Virus Database has been updated!", one more time in that smug voice and accent... To the moon, Alice!
You can't hate mushrooms too much, it certainly sounds like you've had a few too many tonight.
That if you are ever going to shoot someone in the back and claim it was accidental... don't use 2 magazines.

That's funny, you don't LOOK Drooish...
Am I the only one that read the words "TRIM support" and immediately thought of tight fitting panties?
I still just don't get it, since when did Twitter become a tool for political change?

Aaaah, I think I'm getting why people think that geeks are anti-social and unfriendly. I never got that before, thanks for enlightening me!
It's "Threw up all over the monitor"... danke!
