I'm also one who never drank coffee (grew up Mormon, after all; one of the perks I guess) and I am really glad that I don't drink the stuff. I am not a morning person, so each morning is utter misery for me until I get on my motorcycle and head to school. The high speed and excellent weather (sunny Florida:P) Is all I need to wake up properly. I know not everyone can enjoy such circumstances, but I would urge you to find a way to make your mornings bearable without drugs, for your own sake.
A great example of caffeine dependence just happened a couple days ago actually. I went to a "Dance" Marathon to help raise money for a local childrens hospital. The night started around 6 o'clock and lasted till 8 in the morning. The DJ started with a couple of line dances which most everybody joined in on, and then played mediocre dance music for a few hours. About 1 in the morning he got to the good stuff: swing and salsa, and by then everyone was having a blast. Afterward was not so great.
Some kids brought their own energy drinks and stuff to keep them up, but all I had to rely on was some Cokes (they had coffee too, but I didn't want to have it unless I REALLY needed it) I was completely fine the whole night without it. Some of my friends on the other hand, got sick (one even DURING the event) and had massive headaches/migraines. I brought some medicine cause I had a feeling the music would be loud and obnoxious, but only had a little bit.
Luckily for most of the kids it started on Friday, so they had the weekend to recuperate, and I had a wonderful carefree weekend (after a short nap of course)
Spring is not a game. Its a game engine. There are many games (and Total Annihilation mods) that can be played on this engine. Some of them are not very good, to be honest, and some people have differing opinions.
(I know of many people who abhorrently dislike CA because of its constant changing and upgrading, a fact that I enjoy because it makes the development feel alive and fresh as opposed to dormant and neglected.)
What game did you actually play? Basic Annihlation? or some other TA mod? If that wasn't fun there are half a dozen TA based mods with different play-styles and gameplay mechanics, and there are also several other games which are entirely different. Completely different games. Not at all the same. They share share almost nothing in common except for the fact that they are rendered in the same engine and use the same servers as the other Spring games. If you didn't find a particular game on the engine enjoyable, I would encourage you to try a different one. It is quite easy with the SpringDownloader. (Sadly only for windows at this point; the Linux version only helps update CA)
I'm glad you mentioned it, because there is even a complete engine that was created to run Total Annihilation in fully rendered 3D, called Spring. It has since surpassed its main goals and has become something even bigger, with many more games that have been developed (or currently being developed) including WWII based, Gundam, Star Wars, and even games based on the internal systems and parts of a computer (Kernel Panic).
It has been the only source of entertainment (besides occasional bouts of fallout) that I've had for months. If you do go check it out, and you should, the Complete Annihilation mod is in my opinion one of the very best mods available. The technical and artistic ability of the main developers and contributors is awe inspiring. There is some more information on the trac page.
No. Government regulation is NOT the only way to keep businesses in line. Many service providers have area wide monopolies, which makes them the ONLY providers in the area. Introduce a large variety of competitors and if one internet provider fails to live up to the customer's expectations, the customer has a wide variety of other providers to choose from which suit his needs better.
Without customers Comcast would not have much incentive to downthrottle torrents because their torrenting users would switch over to the nearest torrent-allowing ISP. The same goes for anonymity and all sorts of other considerations. (cost, uptime, speed, etc...)
Instead of introducing legislation to keep watch over the ISPs, it would be far more beneficial to promote incentives for other ISPs to enter the area, increasing the competition, and thus better quality of service.
People have also been saying that we will run out of oil in *insert a couple more years here*. But the truth is, we've been finding more areas rich with oil over the years, and have quite a bit more than you might be led to believe. People use hyperbole to draw attention to them and drive their agendas. Don't believe everything you hear/read/see/etc...

I have no experience with newsgroups or Gopher, so I decided to learn some more about them. After going to the Computing section of Gopher Jewels 2, and the Big Dummy's Guide to the Internet, there is a fascinating article about Usenet.
You all probably know a lot more about this than I do, but I found it interesting that the alt hierarchy contains "Controversial or unusual topics; not carried by all sites".
So what's the big deal that some alt sections are being removed by some providers?
And I would like to thank YOU, Sir Real. Most people don't know what it's like to be sued. My father is a lawyer, and has related many stories to me of his clients' tremendous grief caused by frivolous cases.
ie. One client was sued by the county because the sign of his gas station was too high. It "detracted from the beauty of the area". (this was next to a highway, mind you.) I was shocked that this man had to, on his own property, remove a sign at his own cost and the cost of reduced business.
These people accused by the RIAA and MPAA are fighting against this dreadful corporate corruption and should be commended for their efforts, at the very least

Where do you think wind comes from... magic? No. The sun heats up the atmosphere which causes a temperature (and thus pressure) differentiation which balances itself out by mixing with the surrounding atmosphere, thus producing wind.
So by your definition, ALL wind power is really solar power, which makes your statement kind of contradictory. Not that it really matters, but since you were being a semantic pedantic, I might as well be too.
