This just in NASA now plans a new mission to crash a probe into this new little plannet.
Spokeman says: " If the planet survives the impact of the probe we'll gather a phenominal amount of data which will be used to figure out if the little guy supports life.
This isn't really anything new. The IOC has made many outlandish decisions in the past and will continue to in future.
The ones I feel sorry for are the athletes that spend years training and competing just to get their 10 minutes of fame. After the Olympics are over they sponsor some TV adds and quickly fall out of the spotlight due to lack of coverage. Will CNN continue to pass the torch or will they bury it if it doesn't get ratings? If it doesn't rate it doesn't skate!
This all comes back to the IP issues. Who owns your thoughts, your best times, your face in the spotlight. The IOC is basically saying they own the athletes and you're not going to see them unless we get money.
I developed a web based hardware inventory program for my previous employer. Even though I developed it on their time the software held little or no value to them as a company other than by it's use. My boss at the time was easy enough to convince that the software should be open source and away we went.
I don't think an employer should be forced into releasing software as open source but if the employee wishes to contribute s/he should discuss it with their employer at the get go without the bad will of a legal document.
If an employee demanded that I sponser his/her open source project with a legal document and it was outside the company's best interest I would be sending their resume out to head hunters for them!
Are TPC benchmarks useful? Really when you think about it it's more a benchmark of how well the clustering and hardware performed during the test. The top spot which Microsoft holds on a Compaq machine is a 192 processor Xeon cluster with a huge number of dual processor clients etc.
How usefull is this data in the real world where I don't have $10million to waste? Great when the newest processor comes out I'll run the TPC test and I'll have the top spot till someone on a totally different platform with totally different hardware does the same thing. Great very useful for me.
This all sounds great but what kind of pressure does the air have to be compressed to? One of the downfalls of natural gas is that it has to be compressed to somewhere in the neighbourhood of 30,000 psi which requires numberous small heavy cylindars to get any sort of range. Also with such a high pressure I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the vehicle in an accident.
Even having said that it's definately a step in the right direction!
Trevor.
P.S. My inferiority complex isn't as good as yours!
How about a little paperclip bastard that pops up in the corner to tell you the virtues of any given product on your site as you browse and assists you in your purchase?
Just so you get a life like experience you could have a pencil pop up and try to steal the sale from the paperclip.

Just think when you call the 1-900 numbers you can look at the scuzzy old hag that happens to have a nice voice. Ughh!
In reality do I really care to look at the person I'm talking to? I don't care if my boss wears a tie or a co-worker is wearing a t-shirt.
Another useless technology just like my wheel mouse!
You! Off my planet!!!

Pico has got to be one of the worst editors why not vi or emacs, even ed for crying out loud!
Seriously though, really good to see. The more main stream apps able to run on Linux the better!
Trevor.
Try ping! :}
I could use one of these...
Everytime that little light bulb appears above my wifes head I could use this to suck the light energy away from it and I'd be right!
Whoohoo, I'd be right! That'd be a first!!

Send it to Mars with the green house gasses and poof. Instant Canada!
My inferiority complex isn't as good as yours!!
I don't know what everyones complaining about with Mars being like Canada.
With the Canadian dollar being 3/4 the US dollar it'll cost you 3/4 what it would have if Mars was like the states!
That be fuzzy logic!
