  1. Go to Hell on A (Suprising?) Viewpoint On RIAA Lawsuits · · Score: 1

Hrmmmm... So we know those in marketing can't say 'ethical' for the life of them. Now it appears those in the entertainment industry can't say 'capitalism'. Or maybe they can... they do seem to talk about 'market forces' a lot- of course its all just a bunch of crap used to cover the fact that they want to control the market. Very interesting.

  3. The Motley Fool on A (Suprising?) Viewpoint On RIAA Lawsuits · · Score: 1
Do you know how many people read and trust The Motley Fool? A lot! All those people who are trying to make it in the stock market solo i am guessing, and probably more. That 'our' side of the case is finally getting its viewpoint out is a Good Thing. I also love the way Rob (the writer of the article) talks about how Time Warner bought a judge for their trial and then puts the TW ticker symbol immediately afterward :) We'll see if it has any effect on their stock, but its amusing to me. I wish he had put a link to the EFF's page though... I'm sure this isn't going to produce a huge consumer revolt, but it is a step in the right direction.

  4. Time is money on White House Files Amicus Brief Favoring RIAA · · Score: 1
Time is money. It also costs time to examine a person. Therefore it does cost a doctor to examine a rash- prehaps even someone's well-being... Mind you, i have only two problems with Napster- firstly, it is designed to make money off of others works without their consent and secondly it is uncontrolled and cannot be used as a tool for the artists except to gain name recognition.

-Elendale (besides, who wants to listen to the crap the RIAA shoves down our throats? Cheap CDs at mp3.com! Woo!)

  5. IHow would opening Carnivore be bad? on Vinton Cerf Says Carnivore Source Best Left Closed · · Score: 1
I'll tell you why opening Carnivore source code would be bad, and why the FBI kept moving down the line until they found someone who would agree with them. It is because if we saw the source to Carnivore, we would know what it really does. And remember folks, if you aren't paranoid you just aren't paying enough attention; alternatively, just because you aren't paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.
Mind you, i have no idea what it does... but the FBI's staunch refusal to let me see only makes me want to see!
One more thing, why are the FBI afraid of crackers (or are they actually afraid of hackers taking over the system? Mmmmm... that would be very amusing) taking over Carnivore? Crackers love closed-systems... besides that, they already can do all the stuff the FBI claims Carnivore can do. Of course, there could be 'undocumented features' the FBI wants to keep out of the hands of crackers.

-Elendale (BTW, i think we should keep calling it 'Carnivore' regardless of what the FBI decides to change the name too)

  6. Amusing thought... on Lawsuits Suck · · Score: 1
A corp. lapdog politician getting a truckload of mail from people sounds appealing to me. Maybe the EFF could get something like that moving. We right letters (and as Suck says, use real names and addresses) and the EFF prints off one copy for each and every major politician in the country. DOS'ing their mail sounds fun, but they would probably just ignore it. Needing a wheelbarrow to get the mail every morning however would not be so easily ignored. The DOS idea sounds interesting, but it would probably have to be kept up over a period of weeks and/or months (look at the French truckers that are 'striking' right now for an idea) and would need to be sustained throughout legal assaults to those in charge.

There... got that out of my system. Do they really expect this to hold up? It would be insane! If a company supplies me some nice shiny hardware for a device driver i wrote, that may be better than minimum wage depending on how good i am at coding. Now for AOL (and i am unsure as to what benefits they were giving) the benefits probably were not minimum wage. Now i am unsure about the legality of giving hardware instead of money, but i wouldn't mind getting a nice new computer. In any case, in jobs where you get tips minimum wage will be lower, perhaps something like that could be arranged so people who decide to work for free can gain benefits but still not be paid.
