  1. Re:It's life Jim, but not as we know it. on Former Exec Says Electronic Arts "Is In the Wrong Business" · · Score: 5, Informative

The problem with EA (for the studios) is that EA screams louder.

What is the first thing you see in a EA game ? That damn EA logo, then for a slip second, you see some random no name company (the studio).

The game publishing industry is trying to mimic the movie publishing industry by doing the classic " presents... a movie"-introduction.

By sad part is. The avarage gamer is a lot less intrested in who made the game, then the avarage movie enthusiast. So they only notice the EA logo and get reminded to turn off all brain activity for 5sec because, well, every one hates waiting for the game to start.

The movie industry can do this because its more or less part of the build up, and for the enthusiast, its just another reminder that this movie is made by the awesome studio, .

Back in the old days. A game would open with the studio logo, and if the publisher is lucky enought, they get there very own screen to present there name, else they would just have to do with a "published by" in the end credits.

  3. This has nothing to do with "no ending". on Game Endings Going Out of Style? · · Score: 2, Informative

The article mentioned something about open ended worlds, score grindeing, and top scores.
This has nothing to do with an ending. If a game has a story (MMOs excepted), it will most likely have a clear cut end of the story, but if you get a chance to continue after the end is a completely different thing. Its called replay value. Take Fallout 3 as an example, it has a clear cut end, but is has a DLC that unlocks gameplay after your done. This is not to continue the story, but rather give you the opportunity to extend and fill the gaps you miss if you don't do every side quest there is in the game. I would call it a rich story with the unfortunate side effect of having to much detail for the average gamer joe to be playable if mandatory.

Most open ended games are like this.

That guy is so bias toward maemo its not even funny. He has something against google/android but cant put his finger on it.

This article should be about some random home brew telephone running both OSes, but its not. Its about the currently available android hardware running android against the currently not available maemo hardware running maemo.

First thing, he begins his comparison with the "root or not to root" issue and says that WITH ANDROID you have to root it to get full system access, and not in maemo. Not true. You do not have to root android, you have to root the specific setup of android on .

I guess there will come maemo devices from other manufacturers then nokia, and how can THIS random blogger know THEY wont impose system access crippling.

Other then that, he has a point, but i can't tell if it's true, and if i can trust him.

It's all about keeping the issues list organised and neat.
Some of your stuff wasn't related to PA, so he told you were to file them.
Some of your stuff was duplicates, so he told you were to discuss that, so he and other people could help you out, and in the long run get a more stable system released.
Some of your stuff was already fixed, so he told you that it would most likely get included in an update of the next major version of your distro.

Think about it, he might have a lot of issues he has to keep in organised. Having ONE "issue" with several unrelated problems will make it a hell to try and fix. The inconsistent flow of unrelated comments and discussions would only make it worse.

I don't think there is even one large open source project that excepts multiple problems as one "issue", and would most likely respond in a similar maner.
Some project take it even further and replying "File separate issues. Closed."

This is a "problem" with the open source community as whole, and not with Lennart (or any one else) ignoring your reports.

It's this kind of pseudo-interpretation of the law that kills any kind of validity in your arguments about anything related to this matter. It's not about what there doing, it's about what there NOT doing. One of the reasons they are being prosecuted is the fact that they are NOT filtering out illegal torrents (ohh sorry, the torrent file is legal, but the content it's pointing at is not). They go as far as giving you tools to make this easier, like categories and stuff. Sure there can be legal movies, games, pc apps, console stuff and so on and so forth. But now we're back at the filtering again, they do NOT filter out the illegal torrents (lets just call em' that). The fact that they portray the site as a piracy torrent index by, for instance, giving the finger to any one who tries to reason with them, are not helping them.
