I ran a reasonably popular Harry Potter fansite for a while (until WB shut me down for giving them free advertising and supporting their fans) and several times I encountered people who were not going to read the books as it would spoil the movie. I thought this was a bit gukaho and desperately tried to get them to read the books as let's face it the movies suck and quite frankly without having read the books you wouldn't understand at least half of what was going on on-screen.
