Only a few states actually make the legal age 21 for purchasing it. I believe there are four of them, and one is Alabama

    Unless it's your sister/cousin. ;)

Actually, I knew that. Read my original post again. I put in there the disclaimer: "Do (some) Americans have their priorities straight or what? " I was talking more about what ages people feel are appropriate as opposed to what is law (since that changes state to state?).

For some reason (I blame the Puritans 8) the English speaking West has an utterly warped view of sex, and on keeping children away from sex (where "children" seems to include, eg, 21 year olds if you're the US vice-president's wife).

Is that like how a girl has to be 21 to get into a bar - unless she's a stripper - then she can get in to strip when she's 18?

Do (some) Americans have their priorities straight or what? You can drive a car when you're 16 (average for the states), you can enlist in the Army when you're 17, you can become a stripper when you're 18 but you can't drink, gamble or be old enough to look at pr0n until 21.

Simply put, these coporate alliances are where each company invest hundreds of millions of dollars in each other and in return, they both work together on joint projects to increase both companies stock levels.

My question is, what will stop Baby-Microsoft #1 from doing this with Baby-Microsoft #2 & #3? If the government doesn't do anything about this, it will be the same thing over again, only with two other stock symbols to keep track of.

  4. Re:any waterproof digital cameras? on Which Digital Camera Do You Recommend? · · Score: 2
It really depends on how much you consider a reasonable price and how waterproof you want it.

As a serious scuba diver, I can tell you that there are NO fully waterproof digital cameras on the market right now. By waterproof, I'm talking something waterproof to at least 100 ft (30m). Your best bet if you're wanting a waterproof camera for this depth is to go with a Nikonos camera from Nikon or a digital camera with a waterproof case from Ikelite. Just be warned, a new Nikonos camera will run you $500+ (It's a 35mm, not digital - I know...) and a decent digital camera with a U/W housing will run about $500-$1000 for the camera and another $750 for the housing.

Finally, sand-proof and waterproof do not go together very well. In order to make them waterproof, cameras use O-rings to keep the water out. Sand is very hard on the O-rings and can cause them to leak if you get sand on them. If you're going to have your waterproof camera in the sand, make sure you clean all of the seals to remove any pieces of sand from the seals...

Well, I'm sure I've probably given you too much info because it sounds like you're only using it in shallow water. As I said, I haven't heard of any watertight digital cameras, but keep your eyes out in the future...

Personally, I'm using a Sony Mavica camera. They are a little pricey (the mid-range cameras run from $550 to $900) but they have done a pretty good job for me. They work very well in low-light, they have some built in special effects (I like the option to take black and white photos on the camera) and they have a 2.5" LCD screen on the back of the camera (Fairly standard except on the really cheap cameras). It can also take up to a minute of MPG movies in the lowest resolution mode.

The best thing about them though is that they store pictures on 3.5" floppy disks (it has a 4x drive so it's pretty fast).

This is pretty much correct EXCEPT: Linux currently doesn't support WinCE and supports Palms. If MS wants to beat Palm, they're going to have to do something about it because the Linux community isn't. I'm not saying that it's their responsibility, just that it's the only way to progress further into the handheld market.

It's not off-topic when a thread drifts away from the original topic. If it was, 95% of the comments on a thread that had more than 3 replies would be off-topic. That said, I'm probably going to loose more karma because I both insulted a moderator and because this is only on topic if you would read the post I'm replying to (which whoever moderated the last post down obviously didn't do).
