    Probably not. Mint is basically Ubuntu with a different default DE and theme (in turn, Ubuntu is just Debian with a different default DE and theme).

    and why .NET is no longer heavily tied to C#, take a look at what has been added to .NET for F#

    Writing a compiler that targets .NET IL (i.e. the knock off of java bytecode) doesn't make it less C# like. For example, Java has Clojure, which is functional and vert different from Java. But the compiler writer had to jump through hoops to get the clojure code compiled into something Java like.

    The DLR just adds a layer on top of the C# layer, specifically to make it easier to target scripting languages on the C#-centric CLR.

    I've used both champ. .NET is okay on windows, but Mono is horrifically bad on real development platforms.

    Developing software on windows isn't for professionals, so there is your dilemma.

    Java is mature and fast (but tubby), has great tools and library support and runs everywhere. .NET... not so much.

    .NET like it's inspiration, Java, is heavily tied to it's primary language.

    The generated stack-oriented intermediate code is very, very similar to C# for .NET and the Java language for the Java platform.

    So it's like a Soviet Russian knock off of fisher price where instead of safe plastic, you get sharp rusty metal that give you AIDS and locks you into a lifetime treatment program to survive.
