Right, sort of. Forward and backward are not very good concepts when it comes to evolution. More adventagous, or less adventagous are far more meaningful. Evolution is the ultimate in realpolitik. You do what works, and that is the only justification that is needed. This is often times seen as progress, however a species can evolve itself to extinction. This is what many scientists believe happened to a lot of the megafauna that died out at the end of the last ice age. They evolved behaviors and traits that worked for cold climate. When the climate changed they were ill adapted to the warmer climate.
Um, what if the reason he's leaving the position is because he's getting a promotion within the company, or getting a better job somewhere else. If he's getting an internal promotion it'll look good on him that he went through the effort to minimize the business trauma of the transition. If he's going out of the company, still, no reason to fuck his employer over, and if he likes his coworkers he might see this as a way to help them. Just because he no longer has the position he is vacating doesn't mean it's not enlightened self interest to do this. Hell, the person replacing him may be a manager one day, and think to himself, well this fine fellow made my life easy for no gain to himself, and acted in a profetional manner, I should hire him for $highpayingjob because he did right by me before I even knew him.
4. Not use a spam filter that helps filter out email-based viruses (virii?)
hmm, since virus is a collective noun in lattin maybe it should just ve virus. 1 virus, 2 virus, 3 virus, etec.
What the fuck are you talking about with evolution not making mistakes? Evolution is all about mistakes. It's about what mistakes work. 99% of species are extinct. Evolution is great, but it's not something to trust individual survival.
I like lite mode in graphical browsers, it's less distracting. User agent checking would be nice, but it would also mean beefier servers or less capacity. Like I said, the regular mode works fine in links, albeit a little squished.
If EA would port it to linux I'd happily buy Bards Tale, Bards Tale 2, and even that abortion they called Bards Tale 3. I'd even be willing to pay the original retail price, adjusted for inflation for the ported version. I've bought the DOS verion in the past, and in fact I'm trying to figgure out where to buy some Double Density 3 1/2 inch disks so I can put them on my vintage DOS computer. Unfortunatly I've not been able to get them to work in dosemu.
Uhm, wasn't the grandparent talking about the other company stealing his CODE? That used non-obvious and creative ways of doing whatever. In code the same algorithm coded in two different ways can have linearily diffrent execution times and costs. The actual lines of code can constitute art, in a legal sense. Given the same model 10 artists can create a work that does rougly the same thing, pleases the patron (whoever is paying for this) and looks good on the patron's wall, however each one will be a little different, the same with any level of non-trivial code, One will be faster, one will use less memory, etc. He's not saying the company could not have implemented the algorithm themselves, he's saying they stole his code, his implementation of that algorithm, and his implementation was in and of itself non-obvious.
Um, thanks for SUPPORTING my argument. And I have never whined about tornados. Nor do I know anyone who has. Coasters are terrified of them, we just accept them as a fact of life, go into the basement and life goes on. It just pisses me off when people whine about environmental hazards of places they chose to live.
MS Compilers aren't known for being speed demons either, If I recall correctly intel has the best performance on it's compiler. The engineers at intell lambased MS for doing things overly piggishly
Yes, it's ok to buy hardware that only runs on Linux if you're only planing on running Linux, if you're only planing on running MS Windows *shudders* it's ok to buy hardware that only runs on MS Windows. If you decide to migrate after deciding you're Only going to run that OS god help you.
I know I'm going to get modded redundant, but here, here. If we sign this law, I'm straping my sword to my back, a couple of shotguns, a few assault rifles, and marching to Washington. I will then start killing elected officials who voted for it, or signed it. Unless the supreme court says "um, hello dumbasses the HIGHEST law of the land says free speach SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED" and throws the treaty out.
Many Americans are willing to die to let anyone say any damned thing they want, so long as it does not directly cause illegal actions. As has already been quoted "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." On the other hand, we do have a rather strong tradition of being willing to die, but not being EAGER to die. So, would I risk death to end the opression of someone who hates me, yes, would I kick the shit out of the same person who said his peace where it could incite me, yes. This isn't a contradicition to me, why is it to you?
I've heard twins sometimes develop their own little languages. Although this realy would be more like a hand hacked network stack. Machine code is more like puting chips in peoples heads, which they do for extreme cases of Parkinsons now.
That's what's always pissed me off about German, something starts out making perfect sense, but then you get into a large number of idosyncracys and suddenly you have more than doubled the sentance lenght from English. Disclaimer: I've not been in any sense of the word fluent in spoken German since I was 5 and have NEVER been fluent in written German
It is amazing the arrogance of West Coasters. Here in the midwest we have a big tornado on a fairly regular basis, and it earns 30 minutes of news time after the fact, and ruining one evening before hand, none of this pissing and moaning about Oh, is this the big one, how am I ever going to handle going through the Big One. If you're that worried, move. there are plenty of places that don't get earthquakes. How is this News for Nerds, how is this Stuff that Matters?

Ok... That's just... BAD.

Slashdot with simplified mode works rather well for me no matter what browser I'm using. Also regular mode works fine in links.
How about Image Magik?
Attitude control control over the way the plane flies. It's yaw, pitch, and roll. Please go to the back of the line and try again.
Why should people be punished for being successful?

It replicates itself from the CD to the hard drive. Old Skool virus, not pansy assed network spreading virus.

Danke Schoen
or "Ich Hab Sie dir gesagt!" Sie is both singular and plural, plus it's formal.
It worships Linux, go away you Apple shill.
