Glad I could help. Knoppix only has 4 terminals, so the key you would have had to use would have been alt-f5 Like I said, you can't count on the number of terminals being what you expect. I've been known to edit my init tab until I have 11 terminals and X, or more often 7 terminals and X (I like having the fkey for X at the end of the grouping) I found that key combo by accident, and depending on your WM ctl-alt-arrowkey may not work. I know that in E I have set that to change desktops.
The method I always use is Alt-rightarrow or alt-leftarrow. This takes you forward or back one terminal. The reason is I never remeber how many consoles I'll have running at one time. You only need to use ctl-alt-fkey when you're in X. In a term alt-fkey works.
No, you pointed out the Mac as a good user interface, I am arguing that it's consistant, but consistantly BAD. I find the detacted menus annoying, options hard to find, and configuration confusing as hell. I use almost exclusively Gnome applications when I use the GUI, so I have a unified desktop. So, hmm, Unified and "makes sense" to me, or unified and makes no sense, is poorly organised, and makes me feel like a kindergardener. Well, I wonder which user interface I'm going to favor? I dislike handcuffs when I'm trying to get work done.
I tried a Mac for a week and was pissed at how limiting it was. I like the way copy and paste works in X. I also like not having 80 billion windows for a simple MUD client or IRC client. There are other UI issues I have with Macintosh. I REALY like the Gnome panel. I like having system health statisics right at my finger tips all the time, in a nice graphical manner, I like not having my obscured apps hard to read. I love sloppy pointer focus. I have other issues with that peice of crap kindergarden interface but I need to stop before my blood pressure goes through the roof.
If you are a dubmass who likes running trojans you can put . in your path. It is of course not recomended. Now, if you understand why it is a good thing to have to conciously run a script or program located in your current working directory the two extra charecters are a non-issue, and don't realy slow you down that much.
The X way works rather well for me, I have sloppy pointer focus. This means context switches take zero time if I am already using the mouse, so the steaps change to

Now admitedly I'm not a big fan of using my mouse a lot, but when going between aplications it's a very handy little tool. I do find the highlight to select and middle click to paste selected nice.
Everytime someone gets killed by artilery or a bomb they are being killed by the application of the theory of gravity. No gravity doesn't kill them but it does let the Sorry to break it to you, but humans are pretty reched creatures, and can use LOTS of things to kill people. Actualy come to think of it, everyone who's ever jumped off a building was accelerated to the speed they impacted the ground, causing their death.
Of course it shouldn't be accepted just because there is no disproof, there has to be evidence of the theory for it to be accepted. No theory can ever be proven. This is acutaly a central tennant of Science. You can have tons and tons of supporting evidence but you NEVER prove your theory. Also a single counter instance disproves a theory. The thing about evolution is that there is considerable evidence supporting the theory. From the finches on the galapgos islands, to the fossil record, to the way that selective breeding has worked for millions of years. Now, if you can provide me with counder evidence to these phenomonon, I'll be more than happy to say Darwin was wrong, after all, he's just a British stiff, what does he know.
Common misconception, Keppler and Copernicus were both Catholic monks. The chuch was a great supporter of science in the Renisance as a way to further understand God. The reason Gallelio was tried for herasy was because he personaly insulted the Pope, due to the Pope's official support of the official chuch line, which had yet to be disproved at the time of his trial. Gallileo refused evidence that could have "proven" the heliocentric theory because he beleived comets to be simply optical illusions. The inquizition did a lot of bad things, but they didn't try to quash heliocentrism per heliocentrism.
Actaly it doesn't. The soldiers simply use the equipment that is loaded with the software, it is still owned by the military. There has been no distrobution. It would be more akin to a business putting Linux on the workstations of all their employees, they business is under no obligation to provide the source code to it's employees. Now if said business were to sell or give (transfer of ownership, not use issue) said Linux loaded workstation to an employee they would be required to give the source code to said employee.
Simple solution, simply don't distribute it. Also anything they write that isn't based on GPL code does not fall under the GPL, there is a specific exemption for glibc to allow proprietary software to be written using gcc and linked against glibc, as long as it's source compatable with other compilers. So, no need to give out any source they don't realy want to.
The code for Linux is written for preformance, not for latency, but for raw throughputting multi-tasking performance. It may be posible to re-write windows NT into what the original design was to be, but there is so much superflous crap that it's very very dificult to winnow it down to what realy is needed. Linux is easily pared down to the essentials, so, as of current, Linux is writen to be more resource efficent, requiring a less powerfull system, producing less heat, and requiring less power, Now, if MS could trim what they have down into something that has actual preformance wouldn't they have already done so?
Ok Troll I'll bite. IANAL, but I have received this advice from two lawers, pro bono. ANY user of the Linux kernel is an innocent third party, and under contract law not liable for the actions of others. if SCOs claims are true, then IBM owes them money, and Linus is responceable for removing the code from future releases, and that is all. So, the simple fact of the matter is, nobody should be paying liceces to SCO, and anyone who does is stupid. If sued by SCO, counder sue for harassment and legal expenses.
I changed my numbers and apparently didn't find all the $1000s I origianlaly used. Since you have to file a schedule C for barter anyway, you'd be a fucking idiot not to take into consideration all the expenses that came from the batering. This is a legitimate business expense, since it is in the pursuit of profit. Now once again, until you learn basic economic concepts stop wasting my time.
What sort of flaky ass hardware are you running to get frequent kernel panics? the only things I've ever had kernel panic from are at boot. I think maybe once from the wrong driver being staticaly compiled into the kernel.
No, under the IRS's rules you are both a wash in your direct trade, your cost of goods sold is $10 and you get a $10 item for it. this is a WASH. I think you are the one who is misinterpereting what I'm saying. Now if I build a computer from $500 worth of parts, and trade it for $800 worth of {currency|barter goods} then by my labor I have created $300 worth of wealth. I am enriched by the $300 profit I made, and the person who gives me $1000 is enriched one computer, an artifact they could not have produced themself. Trade always creates wealth because whatever I trade for has more value to me that what I traded. The converse is also true, whatever someone trades me for my goods or services holds less value to them than my goods or services. I'm not talking some crazy socialistic version of value, I'm talking pure right wing capitolism. Value is created through the exchange of comodities and artifacts. As far as your time having value, that's a falacy, your labor has value, and in fact in my example I put a price on my labor, $300. The legality and properness of paying a tax on income is not something I am debating. I am simply stating that by trading goods and services wealth is created. If this were NOT the case then socialism and comunism would work much better.
Now on to the argument about depreciation, Depreciation is the decreasing desirability of an item over time. I need to define it because there is one striking fact, Depreciation is NEVER considered in cost of goods sold. The reason is because if I sell an item for less than I paide for it I take a loss on it. So the value for profit on merchandise is Sell Price - Cost of Goods Sold. This includes the purchase price, the expense of storing the goods, any labor associated with those goods, etc. You only have to report PROFIT as income, not revenue. The sell price is my revenue. I get to write off all the expenses I had in selling the item, be it for trade or for barter.
Please come back when you have Ecconomic arguments and a firm understanding of profit.
Um, Dude, the Dali Lama has 0 karma, that's like the whole point of reaching enlightenment, to get rid of all your karma, good karma keeps you tied to illusion just as much as bad. Like everyone on slashdot thinking that their Karma score matters and stuff.
Um, if I trade a $100 chair for an adjustment yes the chiropractor is $100 richer, that's the way trade works. it's not a zero sum game. I'm $50 poorer, (always figgure anything sold cost about half as much for the person selling it) but I received $100 in services. So, the Chiropractor received $100 in merchandise and I received $100 in services, I didn't realy want the chair, and did want the adjustment, he wanted the chair, and the adjustment didn't cost him much.
Galeleo was a dick, he was put under house arrest for calling the pope a simpleton, and for refusing evidence at his trial that would have proved the Copernican model. While the Inquizition was bad, Galileo isn't anything you can pin on them. Now the Peodphile preists thing they are arguably handling poorly, but they are probably trying to avoid another inquisition.
