  1. The Piranha club got some new members on Should a '9200' Brand Mean a 9200 GPU? · · Score: 1

This is really sleazy... Putting an inferior 9000 in the laptop and still claiming that it is a 9200 and justifying that by saying that they have the same performance. If i got it right, the 9000 and the 9200 would perform the same in these machines just because the motherboard doesnt support AGP8x. Where the hell is the logic in that? Just because you have a limitation somewhere else in the machine doesnt make it legitimate to "upgrade" some component in the ads and say that its no big deal that it really isnt that particular component because it wouldnt be fully utilized anyway. If its only the support for AGP 8x vs 4x that differs between the computers i would expect to have 8x if there is a 9200 sticker somewhere on the computer.

Dunno why this pisses me of so bad but it does...

  2. I Got r00t on a photo machine on Public BSOD Sightings? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I saw a passport photo machine here in gothenburg at the railway station which had a display on the outside. It showed a single xterm window with (root logged in) over the familiar grey fishbone pattern that you get when you run X without a window manager. Too bad that it didnt have any keyboard it could have been interesting to kill a few minutes there.

  3. Jan Johansson on What Jazz Records Would You Reccommend? · · Score: 1

Fire up kazaa and search for "Jan Johansson" and the song title "visa från utanmyra".

If you like that piece you should go out and look for the record "jazz pÃ¥ svenska" (transl. jazz in swedish) itÂs released by heptagon.

You can find out more about Jan Johansson here:

Ah, i forgot. Its a bit like a cheesy soap opera sometimes. Its hard to remember whos sleeping with who :) No matter what, microsoft could probably handle the bills for the lawyers alone if it comes to that.

What I dont understand is what they want to achieve with this. (If its just not about being as much of a hassle as possible...)

  5. How much is a patent worth? on AOL Patents IM · · Score: 4, Insightful

There was a show on swedish television earlier tonight where all the nobel prize winners discussed among many other things intellectual property. One of them said that a patents worth amounts to how much money it will cost to challenge it in court. You probably dont have to be one of the nobel prize winners to realize that but its a good point.

What he didnt say was that it probably works the other way too. A patent left undefended (in case mirabilis and microsoft decides to ignore it) is not worth more than the paper it written on.

Check out pscp it's a scp client for win32 it's derived from putty i believe. It is released by the MIT license, i can't say i heard of it before but according to the url below it is close to bsd. Free as in beer with your words.

    http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putt y/

There is even a frontend for pscp if that is needed.

True, most of those words sounds swedish. I guess they're supposed to be pronounced with a brittish (or scottish?) accent though. The swedish word knekt (pronounced like connect but without the o) is an older word for soldier, think medieval age. It's probably related to the english word "knight", they basically have the same meaning, but i think a knekt was much lower in rank than a knight.
