PPC != Mac, therefore your claim that OSX has better hardware compatibility is false because it's only compatible with the G5.
Also, just because the user interface of OS X may be easier to learn or because you like it doesn't mean it's better.
Maybe someone wants to learn about Linux or maybe the people who want to run Linux on PPC just don't care about OS X to consider using it. Whatever the reason, there's nothing wrong with trying to "Think Different".
Apart from some first year psychology college students, America doesn't have a Left. "Liberals" are considered center in the rest of the world. So, it's unfair to compare the American left with with socialist dictatorships.
Do you buy another TV every time you head to the electronics store? What if each kid wants to watch a different DVD or play different games?
I'm not sure why anyone would work on a spreadsheet and play SC2 at the same time, but having 2 Xbox 2 systems will work just as well as having 1 PC and one Xbox.
Consoles only come out every 5(?) years and not many parents replace their kids' computers every two years. Most kids have to share the PC with everyone else in the family. And there's always the option of buying just the PC for both games and homework.
It isn't a bad idea but it's too expensive for a restricted PC.
I've seen people watching videos on laptops/portable DVD players on the bus/train. These things are good for those of us who live in the suburbs.
I'd get it to watch anime or tv shows but my bus ride is too short for a whole movie and I'd probably run out of things to watch after a couple of days.
The problem with the Halo argument is that it makes people think the Xbox only has one good game. Which isn't true but the selection doesn't compare with that of the PS2. So, call me when Winning Eleven 7 is ported to the Xbox.
The question was from the victim's point of view. Remember 7 years in jail might screw someone's life up just as much as identity theft.
Anyway, the prison system isn't meant for lots of people to die, suffer a lot or waste taxpayer's money. It's meant to keep everyone else safe. If punishment isn't good enough I don't see how more punishmont will solve any problems.
There is a difference between paying royalties for MP3 and having to reverse engineer the.doc format. It isn't just closed, it has changed several times throughout the years. Even if a government institution is still using Word 20 years from now they won't have access to much of their data.
Anyway, most industries work with standards. They haven't doomed any countries yet.
There's no reason for one program to fail because another program that isn't even installed on the machine has bugs. Specially if it's a crash caused by a remote web site.
Do Al-Jazeera or Xinhua even have correspondents in the States? The only American news channels I get are CNN, MSNBC and Fox News. Many countries only get CNN, so you can't blame people for thinking the American news sources are biased.
Children in the rest of the world would find Cowboy Bebop, Gilgamesh or The Wings of Honneamise extremely boring.
Cowboy Bebop also has scenes of drug use, transexuals, transvestite prostitutes and intercourse between two men. Berserk has male prostitution, rape, child rape and menstruation.
I think kids 13-15 would understand some of these topics, but that seems like an extremely narrow target audience.
Btw, most people I know who watch anime (including myself) are not Americans.

Gentoo does have binaries available but running KDE or Gnome on a 166mhz machine would be a nightmare. Whether you're compiling it or not.
On my 600mhz machine, the very large C++ applications are a pain to compile. Everything else can compile in the background without bothering me.

So the Australians didn't invent camping?

Go ask a teenager if he thinks Sony is cooler than Apple or if he thinks the Honda is too japanese to be cool.
Actually, most of Sony's products are very 'fashionable' compared to the competition (although I dislike their desktop PC designs).

Oh! A sarcasm detector! That's really useful!

You can buy a 64 bit desktop in the present.
Torturing and killing people in secret is much more acceptable than doing it in the open?
Fourth wife, first boob job.
So that's where the arrogance comes from.

1. Users need to spend time downloading and finding out if plugins exist for their needs.
Or it could work like Winamp where the most common plugins are included by default and the most necessary ones enabled by default.
256 Kbps VBR... isn't that an oxymoron?
100% of Apple computers run an Apple OS. Apple does not sell machines with non-Apple OSs or with no OS at all.
BTW, PCs account for a very small percentage of all computers yet Microsoft is still considered a monopoly.
You're assuming the emulation will always be slow. It will never run at 100% efficiencey but it eventually will be useable.
Just a note, the conspiracy freaks who always get modded +5 on /. are _not_ the Linux community.
People who don't care don't vote, problem partially solved.
