I don't know how much advertisement will affect on me. I am a full-time Linux user (at home). My 2nd main computer is Mac. I used to be a Windows users -- that was five years ago, so I have not switch back to Windows. I do have Windows XP Pro in my Laptop due to office application, and required by College. Otherwise, you wouldn't never see me using Microsoft.
As far this advertisement, I believe it's a part 1 of whatever they will throw at us in future.
I will add my voice to the flood. Yes, this seems to be a waste of resources. These days we need cpu which consume less resource because vast majority of us are buying laptop PC. I love desktop computers because they can be upgrade but I don't think I would built a machine that require an AC.
I wish companies will reseach in building batteries that will last six months, and pc manufacture & software companies will spend their time building technology that will consume less energy. This is where the marks is heading.
My biggest grip with off-shoring is their inability to communicate with us in English -- (Mind you my English is not that perfect). For example when I was going to buy a laptop I called HP and I was transfer to someone from India. I asked him regarding reflective screen & matte lcd. I didn't get a good answer, and it's shame because I would right there bought a Business Notebook from HP.
Also, it's hard not to get emotional when you see your friend, and relative losing jobs because they will not work as a slave.
