For those of you comparing this and that, nit picking everything... you are all a bunch of moronic dolts. Look at it as though you have never seen or read anything Dune. Clear your prejudices and just enjoy a movie for once.
It is great to see the += and related operators now in the syntax.
So python doesn't allow operator overloading? if it did you coulda done it yourself. and that's no fun not having operator overloading. it's always good to make a class whose + operator subtracts and whose - operator adds. or something...
I am now convinced that we will never get a decent low priced laptop. This thing is over US$2,000 and if you look at the picture, is only about twice the size of a human hand. C'mon Just give me a 350 Mhz laptop that will run for 6 hours. This is tempting, and I really *want* to support another chip competitor, but this just isn't quite good enough yet.
Give me something that I can sit in a cafe with for hours upon hours finishing up my programming assignments.
Having just been given my first 5 points of moderation power, I was reading some of the posts with a little more attention. It came to my attention that we need some kind of downward moderation category that is somewhat like "Redundant", but much more derogitory, and call it "Duh". Also, it is almost the opposite of "Informative". My simply reading it one loses priceless storage areas in your brain, resulting in a lethargic state of being that causes you to write things like these.
on priciple alone, this should be moderated down.
although, i thought the original thread which this article is based on was a worthwhile read. It made microsoft appear to have a bit of humanity. maybe the bit was flipped by electronic interferance though.
Well, i don't know how redhat and mandrake do it these days that make it really easy, but for me with debian it was a matter of downloading the 4.x binaries of Xwindows, installing it, then (okay, here there might be an easier way, but for my card this worked) running whatever program it was(that comes with 4.x) that generates a XF86Config file for your card, saving it someplace and then run xf86config. Take all the screen stuff from the last step and use it to replace the screen stuff from the first step.
It's not hard, it's just not pretty. But this way you get all the driver generated stuff without having to figure it out yourself.
As of now, you can still buy 15-year-old PCs for $10 in surplus stores for peanuts. If every manufacturer stopped building unprotected AV gear today, there would not be a serious shortage of non-secured gear for at least 20-30 years.
Ahh... i now see things more clearly. So this is why in all the cool interpretations of the furure, all the Good Guys are using old, semi-decrepid hardware from decades ago.
Okay, so Stallman preaches software should be "free as in speach" meaning I can use it basically however I want to. Whereas "free as in beer" which I don't think he is preaching would mean software should be without a pricetag, but I still have to do what the maker says i can do with it. I don't hear Stallman saying "write code, give it away", ie this "free as in beer" mentality, but I hear him saying "write code, let people eat lunch off it if that is what pleases them." So why are people getting upset at this guy because they think he wants to take your code and give it away? Maybe the gnu licensing says something about not being able to sell the code, hell if i know. I don't know how to read, only write.
but not all "free as in speach" software has to be under his licensing terms. Maybe I want to write code and produce a program. I can still let you see the source, but I can charge you for that when you buy the program. But hey, you have the source now, eat lunch off of it.
i thought I had a point to make... i forget what it was. Stallman is a good guy, how's that?
How long until our government is once again of the people, by the people and for the people? These politicians don't have a clue as to what it is like growing up in this day and age, being in college, or the inherant benefits brought upon us by technology. Does this mean one wouldn't be allowed to email their parents? Check my bank account online? Or even d/l a security patch?
Random dormitory room searches? Yeah, right. The day someone feels the need to rummage through my personal belongings without a search warrant is the day they learn what a steel toed boot feels like.
Our state university doesn't educate me well enough for what I pay in the first place. When the government tries to restrict my free time at school, they are are over-stepping their duty.

First of all, i wonder what their quarterly reports look like.
14 Desk Thingies : $11,304,110
04 Original Cans of Spam: $145
87 Fooblargs : $2,492
01 Stuff : $6,000,000,000,000
Or maybe they are just spending a lot on Stuff on trips to Amsterdam.
In any case, wait one second while I remove The Shaft That is AT&T out of my backside.

He's a hole allright. "Security Hole" isn't the first hole that comes to mind though.

honestly, I think it is quite sexy. so much better than how Netscape looks under linux.
