  1. Re:Your analogy fails on Bill Would Bar US Companies From Net Censorship · · Score: 1

In the case under discussion, the hypothetical perpetrators could most likely obtain the guard rotation schedules through observation. The plans would also likely be available through the local government with at most a minimal amount of subterfuge. Therefore, if the plant security relies on the secrecy of the plans or the guard rotation schedule, it will not be protected against a determined attacker.

You do not appear to understand what the term 'security through obscurity" actually means. Camouflage is not an example of security through security. Even if you know someone is using camouflage, it won't help that much. Hiding military movements isn't either. Again, even if you know that is what your opponent is doing, it won't help. In fact, non of your examples are examples of security through obscurity.

Security through obscurity does not simply mean hiding something. It means that your security depends on any flaws in your plans remaining unknown, rather than fixing the flaws.

Knowing how a security system works is not the same as having the keys to that system.

Asking when he works and when his wife and kids are home is just being a dick and you know it. He doesn't have the same kind of security a water processing plant should and he never claimed he did. You've proven nothing.

Yeah... now that all the fun has gone out of abridged plot synopses, writers will actually have to rely on skill and originality in order to sell books! It's an outrage!

Seriously, read "Eastern Standard Tribe" by Cory Doctorow, I've never read a more original or insane novel in my life. Don't read much Sci-Fi then ,eh? Seriously, never read a more insane or original novel than that? Read some Greg Egan, Iain M. Banks, China Mieville, or Stephen Baxter, you don't know what you've been missing. Cory is a fairly pedestrian author in terms of both plot and style.

There is no such thing as a reactionless thruster, and likely never will be unless the laws of physics are much different than we imagine them to be. Sigh. Communism was supposed to be a stepping stone between Capitalism and Anarchism. The idea being that the proletariat aren't, you know, ready to govern themselves, so we, the helpful party of the people that we are, will help them get there.

It is NOT a principle that say everyone is equal, it pretty much says the opposite. If it said everyone was equal, it would be Anarchism.

In fact, Communism attempts to provide only equality of outcome and ostensibly equality of opportunity as well. Free health care isn't communism, its socialism. And the basis of the Internet isn't communism, its anarchism.
