In the case under discussion, the hypothetical perpetrators could most likely obtain the guard rotation schedules through observation. The plans would also likely be available through the local government with at most a minimal amount of subterfuge. Therefore, if the plant security relies on the secrecy of the plans or the guard rotation schedule, it will not be protected against a determined attacker.
You do not appear to understand what the term 'security through obscurity" actually means. Camouflage is not an example of security through security. Even if you know someone is using camouflage, it won't help that much. Hiding military movements isn't either. Again, even if you know that is what your opponent is doing, it won't help. In fact, non of your examples are examples of security through obscurity.
Security through obscurity does not simply mean hiding something. It means that your security depends on any flaws in your plans remaining unknown, rather than fixing the flaws.
Knowing how a security system works is not the same as having the keys to that system. If you had said, "Great, tell me your IP address and what versions of what operating systems and daemons you are running," then that would be more analogous. Asking when he works and when his wife and kids are home is just being a dick and you know it. He doesn't have the same kind of security a water processing plant should and he never claimed he did. You've proven nothing.
The copyright cops have to follow due process and you have the right to a jury tail. Good to know the fundamental rights are still being upheld. I gotta get me some of that jury tail, where do I sign up?
Speaking of Herve, did you hear that when he died, he left his wealth to a foundation he created, dedicated to providing free accommodations for little people who travel?
They call them Herve Vilechaize's Stay Free Mini Pads.
I have read many of those. Randomness and cliched peculiarity does not an interesting or unique novel make. What novel were you referring to? That sounds more like a description of Cory's writing than anything I've read by Baxter, Egan or Banks.
Yeah... now that all the fun has gone out of abridged plot synopses, writers will actually have to rely on skill and originality in order to sell books! It's an outrage!
Seriously, read "Eastern Standard Tribe" by Cory Doctorow, I've never read a more original or insane novel in my life. Don't read much Sci-Fi then,eh? Seriously, never read a more insane or original novel than that? Read some Greg Egan, Iain M. Banks, China Mieville, or Stephen Baxter, you don't know what you've been missing. Cory is a fairly pedestrian author in terms of both plot and style.
The Borg says, "Barkeep, let me assimilate a gin and tonic," the Terminator says "I'll be back, I forgot my ID," and the Dalek levels the place because it can't find the stairs.
In any case, a rocket-jet-inside-a-shoe is still at least more believable than some guy being bitten by a spider who can then hold a tramway full of people with his bare hands. No. The rocket in a shoe violates conservation of mass and energy. There is no such thing as a reactionless thruster, and likely never will be unless the laws of physics are much different than we imagine them to be. A physical being the size of spider man holding up a tram full of people is at least physically possible.
Thank you mo. Scrolling down, I saw the usual arrogant, "I'm smarter than any dude in a lab" type posts explaining that this memristor was just a memory cell and what was the big deal? Hey Slashdot geeks, you may be smart but so are a lot of other people. Knee-jerk cynicism is a pointless waste of time, okay?
Your post on the other hand actually explains the difference and deserves an 'informative.'
And this is yet another reason why Open Source has a trouble taking hold in the mainstream. It's crap like this that confuses the average joe who just wants a working piece of software. Now there are even more options, with even less differences. Are you saying you don't want to play with my balls?
Sigh. Communism was supposed to be a stepping stone between Capitalism and Anarchism. The idea being that the proletariat aren't, you know, ready to govern themselves, so we, the helpful party of the people that we are, will help them get there.
It is NOT a principle that say everyone is equal, it pretty much says the opposite. If it said everyone was equal, it would be Anarchism.
In fact, Communism attempts to provide only equality of outcome and ostensibly equality of opportunity as well. Free health care isn't communism, its socialism. And the basis of the Internet isn't communism, its anarchism.
If the kid with the ball doesn't want to play fair, you either cry about it, or get your own ball and play like reasonable people. These folks did the latter. Thankfully, open source has lots of balls, and you can always clone someone else's balls and use them if you don't like the way that someone is playing with their balls.
'les nessmen hitting his chest to do chopper noises' IT's a RAID on/. HQ ! Run for your Lives !!!!! With God as my witness, I thought servers could fly.
It's not the language. You can write code in any language that sparkles and makes other coders smile, or you can write crap. Don't blame the tool for the schlock some people make with it.
PHP is like BASIC, it happens to appeal to amateurs.
Can you make money at it? Do some informational interviews with people in the field. Cold call around and tell them what you are doing, see if they will talk to you. Most people love to talk about their job. Then you can make an informed decision. Go over your finances, estimate how long it will take for you to get established in your new field, and save up more than that.
Then go for it. Plenty of people change careers and are happier for it.
is it troll month on slashdot? Heheheh, You must be new here. Really, really new. You kids these days, you don't know trolling. What you see now is nothing compared to the great trolls of days past. Twofo, meh. Meept, now there was a troll. Or the maresex guy, or 'think of your breathing.' Why, we even had secret SIDs for trolls to meet in to discuss the art of trolling. Trolltalk, that was here! Then there was this whole spoke thing. Sometimes you were 'on teh spoke' and sometimes you weren't. Few knew what the hell it meant, but everyone said it.
I suggest legislation banning slippery slopes. I know! Won't anyone think of the poor children who might slip on such slopes and slide into traffic only to have their tiny heads popped open like ripe melons by some lorry? How long will we allow our elected officials to create such death traps?

We are talking about the court case, which only refers to the Linux kernel. You can redefine language all you like, but that won't fool a judge.
This is what Twitter is for.
Hey, cool, I haven't actually read any Jeff Noon. I will now!

Troll month. hehe. It is troll Tuesday, though.
Thanks for your input, Mr. Cruise.
Just use powdered non-dairy creamer, silly.
