    Social background has nothing to do with power, wealth has everything but this is generally natural. People are _not_ equal in their abilities and consequently stronger individuals achieve more power.

    Linux more modern than NT ? No way ... Nt is much better designed ( at least in theory .. in practice they have still tons of issues to iron out before this thing becomes as stable as your average Unix)

    LinuxOne is obviously bullshit but your remarks might some day apply to RedHat as well. They do not belive in their core business generating enough revenue to support this outrageous stock value and , recently, started buying out profitable companies to fix that rather serious problem. Basically, I don't have that much faith in RH ...
    In Linux market entry level is very low, basic product is free and that mean a lot of competition ...

    Supposedly, this whole OS thing is about better software so where is KDE ? Where are the awards for KDE ? If anything, Gnome was created to duplicate KDE funcionality which was't considered "free enough". There is nothing innovative about it.

    Don't bother. Get yourself Windows version and be done with it. No OS can provide eveything for everybody ( Windows tried ..) and right now Linux is decent small to medium server OS and absolutely terrible as a gamers machine. Why try to teach pig how to fly ?? POintless ..

    We have yet to see this "OS strength". Seriously, just about every single OS project is not much more then copy of some exisiting , usually commercial, product. How's that for innovation ?

    BU why ? Why force something on OS that wasn't really designed to do this sort of thing. X is flexible but slow - there is no way this decade old architecture will match speed of BeOS or even Windows ( which has advantage of being optimized for intel.) Users ( and frankly programmers too ) care only about speed and that is really what matters on the desktop. If it is not fast enough, GUI doesn't make sense - it is better to stick to CLI.

    That's funny but about 99 % of "desktop" type software available for Linux can easily be compiled on FreeBSD. Damn, even X is the same.
    So where did you get that assumption that Linux is better on the desktop ?
    In fact, in my opinion, both are shity in this regard ( as compared to Win or BeOS) and should only be used as server OS.

    If we talking about user-friendly side of things I think KDE is _the_ answer here. At least according to users which vastly prefer KDE ( and being user friendly somehow implies that it is providing what they want ...)
