    Oh come on. They did bring GUI based OS to milions of people. Apple tried but essentialy failed, MS did not. You have to give that to them.
    It might be not perfect but nothing else comes even close to uusability of NT workstation ( from the GUI point of view , of course)

    Hey, I do use AccelX and therefore trust "a closed source component" In fact, it beats the hell out of XFree on my system so why should I switch to something slower and basically, inferior ?

    You are pushing it here ...
    I used Matrox Mystique and now G 200 and in both cases performance increase was very noticeable.
    I did have to run x11perf or anything liek that -it was simply visibly faster.

    Well, it looks like better half of original XFree project ended up in XiG. How else would you explain difference in quality (specially speed !!)
    between two products.

    Don't count on it. AccellX has a great product, much better than XFree. I paid $ 100 and I am extremely happy with AccelX 5.
    ( one thing that sucks is that I need to shell out another 200 for laptop as XFree (trident) on ThinkPad is almost unusable , so slow)

    Yes , most graphics card are supported under XFree but there is also issue of the quality of support. From my experience, I can tell you, AceelX server are always faster, sometimes bit more, sometimes a lot more, but consistently outperform XFree.
    That's good enough reason for me.

    Hehe, you don't have to be so politically correct here dude. If Enlightenment for you is much more stable that any win soft, then you should probably finally ditch that Windows 2.0 or whatever you are using and move to something more up to date ( NT ?? )

    Most of his criticism was factually supported by various quotes from active members of "OSS culture". Actualy, I think Nikolais piece was first one to publicly point out the fact that there are some problems with OSS ( something that OSS community wasn't willing to do ...)

    You are wrong here dude. MS IE is simply superior to Netscape ann while at the beginning MS might have used OS to their advantage , now it doesn't matter anyway. IE is techmologicaly more advanced then Netscape. It is better and that;s what counts.

    We can't hide the truth. Netscape lost technological battle with IE. It simply doesn't work as well as IE, is more crash prone, not as fast and generally feels clumsy when compared to newest MS offering. We really lack good browser on the unix platform - there is some hope with Opera but I don't know enough about this product to compare it to IE. KDE has one too but I found it usefull only for viewing static HTML ( localy)
    So what are we left with ??
    Anybody has any ideas ?

    Oh, and you would love to have "charting component" available for free so you can make money using it without having to spend any. How convinient !

    Everything costs money, how the hell do you think Linux/FreeBSD etc .. developers make living ? They work for companies producing various "charting components". GPL means death for software developers , no more highly paid jobs, software has no market value whatsoever etc.
    How stupid one has to be not to realize this simple fact.
