VC IDE is very nice to develop with... I have talk with many people and they agree, it is just about best IDE for C++ available ( MFC is a different story)
"yes, you may as long as we can have a discussion about it afterwards to talk about the different points of view"
That's stupid. This kind of "education" is exactly the reason why everything is so fucked up in this country. It is my child, and I will make sure that he/she is subjected to my belives and moral standards. When he gets 18 - his choice , but before that I will decide which point of view they are going to be exposed to.

That's true that there is complete lack of understanding what usable GUI concept means ( GIMP anyone ? ) but part of the problem is atributable to X itself. Even if somebody comes up with nice interface a la Windows it is usually slow like hell, does not cooperate well with other components ( this is X issue.) No matter what you do (QT, Motif or even pure Xlib), it seems like X is always slower on the same hardware...
What is the best amiga hardware ever producted ? In other words, if one has top of the line amiga ( accelerators etc..) how does it compare to say, ADM 400 Mhz ??
Things are getting out of hand. I can understand patents but it seems that soon it will be dificult to design anything cause you will be bound to stumble on some patent whether knowingly or not. On the other hand I am not so worried about hardware patents as I am about the ones dealing with software ideas and designs.
"If a company like microsoft gets stagnant (releasing the same crap over and over with minimal modifications and calling win2k) then another company grabs the source, fixes it/introduces new and fresh innovation and releases a *real* product."
What the hell is that ? It is MS source code and they have a right to do whatever they want. If "another company" wants to make better product they are free to do so but why MS should allow them to use code that they invested milions of $ in ?? That's stupid ! If I create something great, then somebody else grabs my source, hires bunch of people and creates something even better based on my source then how do I benefit from that ?
Real software ? You mean like Gnome ? Or things like Gnumeric ? If Gnome is that "real" software then thank you... I will rather stay with something else.
BTW. Don't forget that lot of things like Samba are simply implementations of commercial designs and most of the time trying to catch up with the orginal.
GCC - as a compiler not very impresive ( only thing going for it is that it is available for 1000 different platforms)
Binary compatibility is a must! You are another one who forgot that it is you who gets paid for making apps as simple and painless as possible even if it greatly complicates your task.
Following your logic one might conclude that only ASM is really safe because " hell knows how many bugs there are in libc." You have to set some treshold and trust software written by others - for you it might be libc for others "MS wizards." On the other hand it is importand to understand how all of this works underneath but reimplementing the well every time is simply, well, stupid.
TCl is terrible. I just finished learning StoryServer ( uses TCl as a scripting language) and how I wish they used something like Java instead. I mean what the hell is that [FOREACH {j} { make sure that this is on the same line otherwise you will get criptic errors. It is almost like fricking BASIC in 80s...
Perhaps he knows a bit more about market then you. Remember, he deals with this every day and you only once in a while. Just something to think about...

That isn't even that funny ...
...and is much much slower than your average comercial compiler)
( by the way, gcc also has bugs
Don't. Last thing you need is wondering if it was your fault or your IDEs ( specially, when trying to learn something)
How about if mother decides that it is good for her kids to try beer at the age of 12 ?
Where do you say enough is enough ?

Yep, I think you are warped. But that's just my opinion ...
You are throwing word "fascist" around too much. Obviously you are another spoiled American kid thah has no clue what fascist really means.
Dude, enjoy being 16. Stop bitching ...
You will have plenty of time for that .
And what specifically is so offensive about the 10 Commandments ?
You mean GIMP ?? Get real ... Photoshop is years ahead of GIMP both in features and user interface ( which is just as importand.)
It was recently explained to me by profesional in this field - really, I thought GIMP was just as good and it is not, not by a long shot.
I think it was Microsoft that prompted Netscape to create Mozilla project. Basically, Netscape lost and that was the most honorable way out ...

Yep. It has nothing to do with the Internet. In fact, I do not think it had much effect at all on anything.

Show me something in GPL world that is "really great" and was not implemented before in commercial settings.

"That's good for Microsoft, but bad for developers. "
No , this is good for the users and bad for developers... and this is exactly why you are getting paid.
"It even got so bad that at one point I heard a Microsoft developer say, "the source code is the documentation." What kind of bullshit is that? "
...
He,he. I hate to tell you that but this is how so called "world of free software" operates. Have you ever seen GPL code that actually has comments?
Good luck

PHP3 is nice but DB API they created stinks big time. "ConnectSybase","ConnectOracle" anyone ??
