In addition to good trouble shooting skills. I think every technician especially those in telephone tech support should be able to be able to describe some in the simplest of terms and be able to be polite and non-condescending while they do it.
So I think a good suggestion would be to have the potential employee walk you through fixing something on the phone. A dial-up connection or Network TCP-IP setup (non-DHCP) would do. and don't let them off the hook make them describe EVERY Step. and act as computer illiterate as possible.
at the risk of getting mod'd for doing a me too.
I would just like to say that I started using smoothwall at home about 3 months ago. The install was simple and painless and took less than 10 minutes. and every time I have upgraded since then has only been better... I have not found any of the negativity that others are speaking of nor have i never NOT had a question answered to the fullest of their ablilities.
they had a couple of links to a story about it... FSCK being a shuttle sysadmin. Imagine what being the Sysadmin of Jupiter would like like on your resume.
And these few precepts in the memory, See thou character. Give thy thoughts no tongue, Nor any unproportion'd thought his act. be thou familiar, but by no means vulgar. The friends thou has, and their adoption tried, Grapple them to thy soul with hoops of steel; But do not dull thy pal with entertainment Of each new-hatcht unfledged comrade. Beware Of entrance to a quarrel; but being in, Bear't, that the opposed may beware of thee. Give every man thine ear, but few thine voice; Take each man's censure, but reserve thy judgement. Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy, But not exprest in fancy; rich not gaudy: For the apparel oft proclaims the man; And they in France of the best rank and station Are most select and generous, chief in that. Neither a borrow nor a lender be; For loan oft loses both itself and friend; and borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry. This above all--
to thine own self be true; And it must follow, as night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. Farewell, my blessing to thee. ~Shakespeare, Hamlet Act 1 Scene 3
ok a quick primer... The civilian channel(unencrypted) of GPS is accurate to about 30m if SA is turned off. From the very beginning of the NAVSTAR(GPS) progam the USCG saw the benefits of the program and wanted to be able to use it in a maritime setting but the DOD was adamant about being able to spoof if if nessessary so the DOT and USCG developed a way to defeat the spoofing in a localized setting (just around the coastal and inland water ways of the US) by converting their old LORAN stations (an antiquated HF doppler navigation system that was be phased out because of GPS anyway) and use them as an error correction stations. Because the precise location of these stations were known what the DOT and USCG did was simple put a reciever in the stations and then compared that to the recieved signal from GPS and then transmitted the correcting code via the communications gear already installed in the stations. The catch? it only works inside the territorial waters of the US and you have to have a special reciever to get both signals. and OH BTW DGPS is even more accurate than GPS even with the SA turned off.to see the USCG powerpoint brief on this click here (be forwarned it's large)
I don't see what all the fuss is about... I never get spam in my primary email account. Here is how I do it... I have two accounts (more actually but for this argument two) when ever I register for something or order something I use the account in this letter... if I REALLY wanna talk to the individual or company then and only then do I give them the other address....and if I need a registration code (yes I actually register software, who hasn't been using Winzip long enough to feel guilty about not paying the guy) then I go to this account and check it out and delete all the other stuff... the way I see it if AOHELL doesn't want to do anything about spam anymore then it serves them right to have to deal with the back log.... and just for the record I got more spam on AOHELL than I have ever gotten from a normally ISP. I am sure there are programs that allow you to capture screen names in a chat room to spam with....
that they called the new design an ARC reactor... I.E. Iron Man....
