  1. BOBIX!! on "GNU/Linux" vs. "Linux" · · Score: 1

I think you have read wrong. Linus said that he originally called it linux as a play on his name and that he never intended for that to be the actual name. He came up w/ freax(or somethink like that, a combination of free + freak + unix) but the owner of the ftp site where he was uploading the sources didn't like the name and just left linux as the name. It just stuck after that.

Well aparently the license for Silver discs can be transfered to another person if you sell the disc. I'd assume you could transfer it to yourself if you got a new player. This kinda makes me think of another bad point though. Accourding to the article a "silver" disc can only be "owned" by one player at a time. What happens when you get two players in one house? I know that doesn't seem likely now, but look at vcrs. Many people have 1 vcr per tv. Will you need spend $20 for each player in your house? That's just insane.

As was stated in the article, due to the speed at which the universe is expanding, our galaxy, in relation to some other one, is actually moving at quite close to the speed of light. Basically the universe can move beyond the speed of light, we just can't.

An easy way to think of this whole thing is picture being on a train that travels at the speed of light. You stand up and walk forward to the next cart. Relative to the train you were moving maybe 1mph. Relative to the tracks you were going beyond the speed of light. But since you yourself weren't going beyond the speed of light you don't violate relativity.

First Contact, excelent movie, great fight scenes, wasn't watered down with that lovely star trek morality. They weren't fighting for ethics or morals or ideals, they were fighting to save earth. I agree that most of us do want the same thing. But I think RMS's method of going about it is 100% wrong. I prefer Linus' method. With RMS everything is political or it's about recognition and credit. Linus seems a lot more laid back, pretty much just code great software and people will GIVE you recognition and credit. RMS isn't doing much more than pissing people off.

I really hate to make the comparison but RMS is a lot like Bill Gates. Neither one of them seems to have written any code in the last few years. Neither one of them wants to give you any choice, Bill Gates wants everything to be proprietary, RMS wants everything to be free. They both seem to want to own everything, Bill wants to litterally own everything, RMS wants everything to be "GNU".
