And if you 'fail because some large corporation lied? Oh too bad the powerful men stepped on you. Or they dump all there waste into the water? or take you land so they can have their railroad, or any number of actual real world examples.
" ruthless objectivist world " ah, and there we have a another person who didn't read her entire philosophy. Explain to me how you could even have a chance to succeed of large mega corporation controlled everything? hmm? We are talking EITC + Robber barons and turning them up to 11.
Ayn Rand state that corporation would take care of the people. Do you REALLY believe that? DO you really think BP would have made any effort beyond capping if the government didn't have regulation and forced them to take responsibility for their fuck up?
You should receive 0.00000001% of the blame and resulting judgments.
"Unless you think that the ability to gather is a special privilege granted by the government your argument has a huge flaw." BY pooling that many resource, it does give corporation undo influence over the government.
And this isn't new. There was as serious debate by are founding fathers as to whether or not to specifically disallow corporation. Corporation ran amok in England then. When a system emerges to remove responsibility from the owners, why would they act responsible?
" the recent cratering was decidedly non-Randian in nature." Are you high? removing regulation is what caused it and it is very Randian in nature. I could site examples through all of history where laissez-faire capitalism type ideas destroy the vast majority of peoples lives. However I think the most telling piece against her overall philosophy* is the interview she did with Donahue in the 70's.
What she is getting at makes sense in the context of what was happening in the Soviet Union during her youth.
*Most people don't read past the part where all knowledge is based in reason(para phrasing).
"is that the government creates an environment for the corporate raiders to prosper (deregulation," Do you read what you write? so now removing regulation is government control? I spent 2 years studying Ayn Rand, and I can say, for certainly, that you are an idiot.
""1984": Everything is so depressingly true." no it isn't. It's the farthest thing from true. Did you actually read the book? You need a completely closed society, and technology can only be used by the government for that to even begin to be true. 1984 is laughable today. IN 48, with the wars and Fascism? yeah, scary. he last 30 years? no, not so much.
had beta technology that would search photos for certain graphical elements. IT was pretty cool. Anyways, I'm sure someone will create an app that figures out the text, and then display that in a searchable field. The demo I say, that had 200 pictures of flowers in BLOB fields and do something like: Select * where image = 'Rose"; color "Red" It would return the picture with the Red rose. (not exact syntax). Shame they could figure out how to market their superior database tech against Oracle.
" failed due to lack of support to PAY for a linux game"
failed due to lack of support to PAY for an old game people have already play on another platform that was quickly falling out of date a Linux game. Still I bought one to show support. Sadly, it played like crap compared to windows.
Accept when companies do come out to make or port game to Linux, they have failed. remember, what 13 years ago now?, when I company came out that ported game to linux?
Of course Valve has some serious money behind it, and Linux adoption rate is higher, so that might make the difference.
"Steam is going to die a death." I doubt MS will offer the same games at the same prices. I doubt MS will have a summer sale like steams., I doubt MS will allow people to give away great games. Plus the MS's game delivery platform for xbox is really expensive for developers. 40K to push a patch?
Unless MS delivers an experience unlike anything they have ever done, Steam will be fine. It's like you are saying MS is a dominate player, so Clearly the Zune will kill the iPod.
He isn't a moron. Seriously he's poretty smart. You may not like his decision's but that doesn't make him a moron.
" mean really one new game every 5 years is not a game development company" Valve release a game almost every year since 1998. They even give Alien Swarm away.
"banks run dry because people on Linux don't actually like to PAY for anything." and a dash of troll to go with your ignorance.
" you are just as much as a greedy schmuck as every other CEO, just too smug to accept it." who also gives things away, brought great games to the Mac, and not wants to to do that on Linux. So you're angry that he want's to make some money from that work? Seriously dude, you're being a douche.
I disagree with Gabe's assessment of windows 8 based on my running steam on it and my development on it(not games) but I wouldn't call him a moron.
I run steam on Windows 8, and all the games work just fine. So I'm not sure what this catastrophe is supposed to be other then he doesn't like the look.
Dear Slashdot posters: Even though the only CPSC document I could fine yesterday where about labeling, today I found a more current document. I swear I looked all over their site yesterday and could find any other docs. Well, it turns out I was wrong, and I apologize. The doc I posted regarding labeling in 2010 was not the most current. Even though I did look, I take responsibility for posting that this was simply a labeling issue.
Better yet, a ban on idiots who don't read the facts of the case? also a ban on people who post these damn articles without any real facts in them.
This is ridiculous, and when a headline is ridiculous you should follow it to the source. Gather some fact. The article is nothing but a set up baseless attack on Obama. What has happened is the CPSC told the company that there are reports of injuries. Items like these should be marketed for "14 or older". The company labeled it 13+. The company could have simply change the labels on the new one being produced when the first found out, in 2009. The didn't in 2010, they didn't in 2011. The "Ban" is only on the ones labels 13+
For some reason, the company is stirring this into a much larger issue then it is,. Sine the company attacks Obama, I suspect Zucker did it intentionally. Why else wouldn't you change your label?
" This recall involves the Buckyballs® high powered magnets sets labeled "Ages 13+""
You know what I hate? people like you that take any headline seriously with out bothering to read up. Secondly I hate articles that talk about shit like this and omit key facts as an excuse to push a political agenda. The fact of the matter, you poor excuse for a limp wristed cum stain, is that it's a labeling issue. That Is All. Change the label,. and they are good to go. Something the company could have done a YEAR AGO and not have had the recall.
yeah, fuck thinkgeek responding to a government stop sell. WTF are they supposed to do? You wan't to be pissed at someone? be pissed at the people who brought this concern to the government. Take that anger and get other poeple together to tell the government you don't want them banned. Oh, you won't do that because it takes work, and it's hard..and besides you have all those new steam games to play.
No, "The Government" is responding to citizen concerns. The people who don't want something banned don't get together to stop it. It's the Citizen who allow this to happen.
And if you 'fail because some large corporation lied? Oh too bad the powerful men stepped on you.

No, he is asking for a safe place to put his money. Growth wasn't part of it.
Laissez-faire capitalism doesn't take control and abuse into account, that's the problem.
Under the system the frauds HAD to have bailout or it would have been far, far worse.
I talked to a lot of people about this, because I didn't like the bailout, but basically it came down to this:
Would you rather a few fat cats to get away, or do you want the entire economy to implode?
You should receive 0.00000001% of the blame and resulting judgments.

Deregulating is as "Randian" as one can get.

It would be an overreaction is it was true.

It's a labeling issue.

Now imagine swallowing another one an hour later..also, they will rip through your intestine to get together.
Not being able to get a toy is now the same as slavery. Well done.
You clearly have no clue, do you? Kids find them at other peoples house, on the ground in play ground, from other kids.
No person and no family is an island. No parent can watch their children 24/7. Simply not possible.
Stop being a small minded idiot. Find something important to whine over instead of a toy
Better yet, do something.
Yes it is. Swallow two and another one an hour later. Then enjoy you perforated intestine and surgery.
