    not to troll, if you don't want to buy the software (assuming the software you are talking about is non free beer software), why should you be able to use it without cost? what is the threshold of use that determines whether you should have to pay for software?

    if you develop software you'll use all the CPU cycles that are available. I've developed on SMP machines for years, and it helps productivity quite a bit.

    heh, so apple will probably get spanked on the high end of performance by linux and on the low end (cheap machines) by windows.

    at least they'll have the 'ohhh pretty' segment locked up.

    nost likely the intel was rushed and may suck (i'm not really that much of processor fanboy). to insist that they are following when they where the ones that shipped first is kind of retarded.

    think about which filesystem has been in use the longest on linux, and has had the benefit of the most testing.

    ext3 would be the answer.

    let's also compare the user base of openBSD compared to linux. If openBSD was as popular as linux, you'd see just as many holes being found.

    actually, the zseries runs a CISC based processor that's been updated to 64 bit, and can still run programs from the 60s.

    The high end kit for speed is the P series kit, not the xseries.

    (I don't work for IBM, but my employer spends ass loads of money on IBM kit)

    since RHEL 4.0 is based on fedora core 3, the kernel in RHEL 4.0 will be almost mainline.
