doesn't anybody test stuff before putting it into production? I use quite a bit of OSS libraries that I test the heck out of before using them in real production situations. if you don't test it is your fault, open or closed source.
each new 'look' for windows programs (not necessarily office, my whipping boy will be a program that I use at work: DBArtisan) have stupid freaking bugs like menus not going away when clicked and buttons that need to be clicked 2 or 3 times to actually click. This is because they don't use the freaking standard widget set. A lot of windows programs do have the same problems.
yeah, the adware crap is stupid, but the big issue here is does the website have to be shown exactly as the originator wants it to be? if you don't want " slimy rip-off merchant" to modify the stream, keep your computer (your property!) protected.
so what do they do when the person doesn't pay? Even Sony can't afford to hire thousnads of goons just to go to repossess the units of the folks that didn't pay. There are plenty of folks that, for whatever reason, blow off their credit card payment.
if you read the mailing list (I do) you would see that a one part of this is that it is architecture is s simpler. simpler drivers == more stable drivers
the key here is that the Power chips power some of the highest margin systems that IBM sells. That is why IBM didn't push for them to be used in Apple computers.
Power chips are datacenter chips. they put out assloads of heat. The G5 was derived from the Power4 so apple could have a fast chip (for the time) that would put out a reasonable amount of heat. Using power4 chips directly would not of worked.
at least macs are catching up to PC speeds finally. wait, macs will be PCs
as soon as they make noise, the chinese government will mow them down with machine guns.
gnome used to use imlib but moved away from it because the code was a mess and full of memory leaks.
most likely because there are commerical apps such as websphere that have GTK+ dependencies

does slashdot get paid for having a freaking apple topic everyday? We've had an apple topic every day for quite a while.
nah, you might catch something
that was absolutely terrible
fedora core 4 has a natively compliled version of eclipse included.
check out this FC4 has it included, and it's pretty nice.

development is happening... I assure you
I use RenderAccel and it works fine. what are you doing to trigger the bug? Are you using the lastest version of the binary drivers?
the mac power PC hardware is also a dead end

AIX does not run on iseries, OS/400 does.
The power 5 kit is so much better then an xserve. The chips are faster, it supports more memory, the OS is fully 64 bit, etc...
I'm not an IBM employee, I just use kick ass power 5 based systems at work.
because they make a hell of a lot more money selling power 5 systems then selling G5 chips to apple.
OSX server get killed when the system load goes up compared to linux. that's why
yes, I am a fucking homer for screwing that up (must think while typing)
if you file a lawsuit against IBM and loose, your financially screwed for life. not the kind of position I would like to be in.
