California Has Enough a Neodynmium at the Mountain Pass Mine to supply all US needs for the foreseeable future. Though the environmental movement has shut down the mine, it can be opened back up in very little time to provide these materials to the US.
This could truly be the death of America, as it will kill the Sciences in the USA, by draining the money out of them or completely killing the departments at public universities.
This is my idea for a simple US Energy Policy that could really take the spikes out and equalize the fuel prices across the USA.
1) Create a US standard blend of regular gas that is legal to use across the USA. Allow for other blends, but the US standard blend should have a minimum of oxygenator and should be a 87 octane blend.
2) Let states opt out, but withhold there federal highway funds
Thats it, it doesn't get any simpler than that. So next time a refinery gets shut down in your area and the next state over has a surplus, go ahead and import it into your state and use it. No more of this 20 blends of fuel for the country.
Spying yourself has never been easier. I've been playing with the Aviosys 9100a video serve with the after market Yoics firmware. I can pretty much install this anywhere there is an internet connection, even if they people that own the internet connection don't know, and view it from anywhere else.
This thing also supports sound! Not bad for $80.
So go ahead and spy back! Until it is against the law that is.
The good news is that Google will make all cellphones better if they get into the race. The reason? Openness. From the beginning of time it seems the US carriers have locked down there phones so you can't do things like load MP3 songs and java applets to them without buying them online. They have the java networking locked down so you cannot connect to everything or use regular sockets (IE not web).
Right now companies like Verizon are panicking and racing to open there networks (IE http://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=2552), if google gets spectrum it will be good for all because google will have lots of cool applications and programs on there phones, and the other carriers to even compete will have to open up there phones for development to everyone.
Also the 700mhz spectrum is a great place to be for a new network as you can get better coverage and need less cell density when your starting out.
As someone who has to deal with these deathly import taxes in Brazil let me tell you they are very wrong. The taxes are to help Brazilian companies compete, but unfortunately they tax things like silicon chips that no company in Brazil makes, so products produced in Brazil that are built with parts from elsewhere cannot compete in the world while paying this outrageous tax on imports for there source parts.
The government doesn't get this, and the poor companies that make up Brazil's high tech industry are hampered an may never amount to much using much older and less computers and equipment than the countries they compete with.
Of course thats why there are companies in Florida that specialize in shipping to Brazil without these taxes. If they were reasonable taxes IE 10% there would be no problems, but the taxes as they are now help no one and they are criminal.
Trying to develop wireless 802.11 interfaces for embedded platforms I agree that it is a total pain in a arse. I even knew people that I worked with before at broadcom and couldn't get them to kick down the Software API. We finally got a Philips BGW200 system working and that wasn't easy either since even after filling out NDAs we got messed around for a few months trying to get the right documentation.
But now it does seem that Atmel is working with people, and accourding to the article so is raylink.
What you can do to help is if you have choice, support these guys when you have to buy a wireless adapter even if it is a few bucks more.
Because of Grey Davis parting gift to the California Fish and Game department of 32 crowny laywer appointies (who arnold hasn't gotten rid of either) the department had to fire over 200 officers (because of lack of funds), bringing staffing levels of wardens to 1965 levels. These robot deer would be a great help to get some kind of enforcement going in California that is despratly needed as poching is rampit in the eastern sierras, plus it would keep the remaining wardens good company since they mostly have to work alone now.
Maybe we should put in for a donation pool for the California Fish and Game!
It should be noted that there is a theory on wheather a person that has a lot of wealth votes democrat or republican.
If the wealth accumulation was easy (dot.com, from parents...) the person usually votes democrat, if it was hard (worked from nothing over years to build a business, worked at a job and invested...) then the person votes republican.
Most of the google camp falls into the first group, it is easy at google, yes there was alot of work for some, but it was easy and fun work, so now 95% of all money donated to politics from google employees goes to the democrat party.
And since most people in this camp have never had it hard they think everyone has it easy and cannot comprehend the republican mind, so they need to censor it from their view, thus the situation we have today.
The US was created by hard work, in fact it works so well that a lot of people have it easy you get all these wacky groups that couldn't exist if it were not for the USA making live so easy. People are loosing sight of what the USA is all about, and censoring conservatives because they are conservatives is wrong as censoring progressave democrats', but the progressave democrats are the biggest censors in the USA now and no one has censored them.
If only they would apply these laws to everyone, except to only the native english, Maybe we could get rid of some of the radical islamic hate speach that is taking place all over London on a daily basis.
Yes I love the Verizon phone service, but there data services leave alot to be desired. They have completely lobotomized there phones, I have the new Razor and It won't run java apps even though the phone supports it.
Many other things about Verizon data services stink, unless of course you want to do things there way and use only "get it now" and vcast.
I say more power to them. If not then don't waste my time.

Been there done that. In my experiance the cheap H1-B's reduce productivity not expand it. But to the bean counters quarterly spreadsheet it looks good.
There are a few H1-B's that I've known to be very sharp, but they are few and far between.
Ham radio operators have been very carefull with RF around the eyes for years. When I was a kid and was working to get my license It was drilled into me that RF energy around the eyes could damage.

Fist let me start off that I've never worked for a company that had more than 100 employees, must have been sub 30. I can't hack a big company, to stupid for their own good.
Having said this, this is where you should be looking for work, either go it on your own or find a small startup, lots more fun anyway. H1B's and outsourcing don't work well for small companies. My current company has grown to 60 ppl and we now have a selection of H1B's, and we finally hired the first H1B in my experiance that wasn't a drone, that could actually think, that could actually ask an intelligant question or provide design insight. The rest are just cheap drones that do what they are told 70hrs a week, but leave them unmanaged for more than a day or two and production goes to zero. About managment, most take twice or three times the effort than a new college grad to "get it".
Maybe it is just my particular field, but I couldn't see an H1B or an outsourcer running our MIS it is tied to cloesly to our development.
Have a phony account or two on your system that you keep email addresses on the web and usenet, use these email accoutn to gather spam to run into spamassasan to make its filter better.
filter all cable and ISP customer IP's. This would be much easier if the stupid providers reversed DNSed there IP's in a reasonable way.
Thats because as a dutchman you won't work for 20K a year. Also to make it work for you you and your fellow dutchmen would all want to work for 20K a year, then you could work in the USA no problem and there would be infrastructure to make it happen. You would also have to program a little, but not much, mostly just follow directions and work on the weekends for no extra pay.
Sprint, best sound quality, as long as you have a good signal, spotty coverage outside the major citys and freeways.
AT&T, worst sound quality, TDMA, very good coverage even in the fringes.
Cingular, ok sound quality if you can find a signal, worse coverage than sprint.
T-Mobile - you mean you can find a signal with this service somewhere? Maybe if your a teen ager in a big city and never leave.
Nextel - Haven't used it, most people I know that have say its OK with decent coverage.
Verizon - As good or better coverage (with a tri-band phone) as AT&T. Decent voice quality but not quite as good as sprint. I'd rate this as the best overall quality and coverage.

Any bluetooth adapter can be turned into a spectrum analizer for 2.4Ghz. Basically scan each bluetooth channel and take an RSSI reading.
I'd be supprized if there adapter is not a bluetooth adapter, just used for specrum analizer use.

I like to deal with things on my own timeline, thus think Email is better for most things.
I hate the phone, and don't like to be interrupted with IM, maybe that means I'm old.

The problem is when Stephen started there was no LPFM license, NPR had just lobbied the FCC to not issue any more 10 watt station licenses.
It is because of Stephen and others like him that LPFM exists today.
