Thinner air means less O2, and less O2 means the jet would have it hard to get the amount of fuel needed. Who cares about planes that are too fast to shoot down, what about missile tech.? Doesn't this really just mean that someone can nuke us in an hour, as apposed to 6?
an hour? ICBMs take like 15 minutes to fly across the world
I used to think it would be absurd of someone to sue MacDonalds because they spilled coffee on themselves... Then it happened.
That was actually a valid case - you should read up on something before criticizing it. While just saying "she burnt herself with her coffee, so she sued. what a fucking dumbass." and have it sound bad, the truth isn't. McDonald's was cutting costs by keeping the coffee temperature higher than it should have, so they'd have to brew less pots of coffee during the course of a day. The higher temp led to worse burns.. a 'normal' cup of coffee doesn't have enuogh heat to produce a serious burn

American method of capitalism is the only successful system? That's horseshit. It just happened to appear under the right circumstances to enable its rapid growth. People have existed for thousands of years, and there has always been a "the most successful system." Just because the American economy is good now doesn't mean nothing else will work.. and just because it seems to be working fine now doesn't mean that it's the best way to govern something. If you had forced our system of capitalism on some feudal land in the middle ages, or forced it upon some African nation now, it probably would've/will fall apart. One of the huge reasons why it works so well was the abundance of unused natural resources in North America..
One question that I don't really know the answer to:
Is Russia like that because of that attitude, or did the attitude arise because of Russia's poor economic state?
I honestly don't see this type of war for the future of mankind. Without trying to sound morbid, the whole point of war is _not_ to blow up your enemies' toys, but to kill the opposing legion's fighters.
Well yeah.. the point of war is to win, usually using any means possible.. but destroying your opponent's satellites etc. will prevent them from gathering intelligence, which is almost as (or even more) important as having more troops nowadays..

Umm.. although I can tell by your "beliefs" that you'd probably hate me and disregard my opinion as ignorant (as some people of my "beliefs" would to you), by definition, unborn children are not alive. Note: I'm not saying that children in womb are not alive. That's just the definition. In fact, I don't really have a full-formed opinion on abortion; partial-birth abortion is plain sick, and the thought of "killing a baby" is, too. But are they alive? Bacteria growing on you and other symbiotic life could be considered you; nobody has (and nobody should) have a problem with eliminating life such as this. A baby in the womb really is, again, by definition, a parasite. Who says that they are any different? Who says that they are alive? They cannot think, they cannot move, they cannot do anything - they could be considered no less than bacteria or any other parasite. Therefore you'd have the right to 'kill' 'it'. Then again, I also fully understand the view that a baby is a baby is a baby, and that killing it is definitely murder. But what about women who were raped? Would you force her to bear the child? What if a woman was to die during birth? Would you force her to carry on, then? Sure, these are extenuating circumstances, but they WILL and DO happen.
Also: just because Bush says he is moral does not make him moral. just because Bush is a Republican does not make him moral. likewise, just because Clinton was a Democrat and just because all the Republicans say he's immoral does not make him immoral, and it does not make his 8 years in office as "years of wretchedness." I don't get it either. However, me, being the young prototypical slacker or whatever (apathetic, disattached from society, blablablah), I find a lot of "dark" humor hilarious. (btw, why is everyone calling it black? I might just be racist, but when I hear black humor, I think of movies like The Wood before something like Snatch.) Anyway, one thing I can tell you is - I have no idea what's so funny about it. In the movie Out of Sight, for example, whiteboy Bob's death is fucking hilarious - if you haven't seen it, here's a summary: at a crucial scene near the end, he's about to capture/kill the good guy. He's armed, the good guy isn't. He starts to climb the stairs toward the good guy, trips, and shoots himself in the head. hehe. Anyway, I guess you could call this irony, as he's portrayed as clumsy throughout the movie (like when he slips on the steps going into the house..) and the good guy is surely about to get killed. But it's not just that. The way in which he dies definitely makes me laugh.
Now I haven't seen Snatch yet, so I don't know whether this is the same scenario or not, but I can tell you one thing: it's definitely not "great knee-slapping hilarious stuff." It's funny, yes, but it's not haha-funny. It's ironic funny, if that makes sense.
Another thing for me, at least, is that I know it isn't real - it's just a movie. I'm not laughing at the brains and gore, I'm laughing at the manner in which it happened, kinda like a Chris Farley-esque "physical humor" joke. I KNOW death is not funny. I know it. But I still laugh. maybe it's because I've grown up in such a sheltered community..

radius I'm guessing is of some Latin root. We take a lot of words from Latin, and often the pluralization is wordus to wordi, radius to radii. It just happens that radius has an i before us in the singular form. Virus goes to viri. Don't ask me what the roots are, I think vir has something to do with being very small.
There's a little more to it than wordus just being changed to wordi - there were hundreds of years that the Romans kinda spoke the language, it wasn't some arbitrary decision. The most common form of a -us word is in the second declension, where the plural happens to be -i.
Radius, I believe, is actually derived from Greek - a lot of math terms are, if you'll notice. Vir is the Latin word for man or husband. Anyway, my point is, just because radius's plural is radii, don't assume virus's is virii. Besides, I've taken Latin for four years, and I have all this pent-up-Latin-grammar-badassness in me.

Are you fucking kidding me? "Human beings produce heat; modern armies should use lizards and other cold blooded animals that wont be picked up by thermal detectors as easily". Although the equipment might fail sometimes, and you still have to carry it, I don't think this will bother a soldier - anything that keeps him alive would be welcome. As for a golden era, I don't know when America as a country was ever in one. A case could be made, I think, that the last Golden Era was the few years leading up to and including the drafting of the Declaration of Independance and the subsequent Revolutionary War. After that, the lawyers got ahold of it, and most of 'em who couldn't hack the courtroom became politicians.
This is trivial, but the Declaration of Indepence was written by lawyers. Of course, they all had "better" morals than many lawyers do today - john adams defended the soldiers involved with the boston massacre to make sure they'd get a fair trial. how could you say the golden age of our country was the few years before and after the revolution? not only was it not a country for part of it (heh), but it was a time of death and destruction and all the neat stuff associated with wars. Not to mention that most of the people were poor and uneducated.
There have been many "golden era"s in which the majority of the people were happy - we're in one right now, if you haven't noticed. The economy is/was booming, people are making money, and we've been relatively peaceful. I don't know about you, but my life is pretty much troublefree, as is just about everyone I know

Are you serious? The government should not be able to kill anyone. Just because we elect people to represent us (yeah, the system doesn't work as well as planned. Then again, nothing does) doesn't give them the right to kill. Like that unarmed man who was shot 40+ times by police because they thought he was armed - if that was legal, an officer could shoot me while I'm walking to the store and claim I was carrying an AK-47. or something. This is how countries like Iraq rid themselves of opposition. This is not something that should happen anywhere, especially not the US.
