Another fun indexing "feature" I experienced is uTorrent would stop downloading files at about 2-5% and complain that the files were in use by another application. When I turned off the indexing service this went away.
DRM is there to stop casual piracy. Everyone knows that everything can be cracked. The software companies only hope to stop those not savvy enough to know what a.torrent is.
You certainly can activate your DSL over the phone, I know because the installer crashed half the time in Windows, and I had to call Verizon to activate. (I've done 100's of DSL installs)
Best advice for a concerned parent: buy a POS for your kid's first car. A 3 cylinder Geo Metro comes to mind, this way they will be too embarrassed to showoff, and wont be able to drive over 60 let alone 80.
