Linux caches any amount of free memory. You will recognize the same behaviour with every other Linux app. Thats just normal behaviour. Just dont worry about your gkrellm settings...ignore it;-)
If it only wasnt so serious these folks would really have made my day. I hope the judges have a sense of humor or SCO will fry in hell for worst FUDing ever!
What's more is that MS claims that the Mediaplayer should be part of their operating system. So you bought it already when you purchased XP. Personally I wonder about MS latest actions as well. Discontinuing IE on the Mac and giving ground to Mozilla by stating that IE7.0 will be OS-bundeled only. Now this. The only thing that bothers me is that MS is far from stupid. I wonder what their masterplan is...
Lol, reminds of the day a friend of mine got his videobeamer and I helped him installing it.
In lack of a proper display we used an old piece of sheet for testing. He lived in the 3rd floor of a huge building downtown and to check out the beamers performance we fired up some pron.
Everthing worked beautifully and then I left. When I was back on the street I found people hiding their kids and pedestrians being stunned by a 3x4m2 Pron-Projection on the building. The beast was transparent. That was really fun!;-)
Until I discovered Dropline my Slackbox always made a suboptimal desktop-machine. Now with Dropline I get all the seksy stuff with a great (Online-)Installer and the folks are really fast to package the upgrades. I think they included Mozilla 1.4 just two days after it went stable. Antialiased fonts, cutting edge gnomelibs, evolution upgrades (wich were a real pain before)...all fast and stable. Who could ask for more? I wonder if the two projects will merge one day? This would make Slack the Killer-Distribution on the Desktop. Actually Dropline is what Lindows tried to do with their autoupgrade but failed miserably.
Yup, thats what I want. For some reason I am a SID-addict since last week. My coworkers are going mad but I dont care. Nothing better than listening to the BombJack theme four hours continously.
Maybe I should get a Sidchip and start my own project. Maybe a Gameboy would be a good starting platform for the mod?
You may have a point but assuming that having the mammon to post on/. makes me rich enough to afford effective medicine is an arrogant estimate. Alright I make quite a bit of money as being a selfemployed journalist, but right now I use most of it to pay my taxes (this might look better next year though). I might be able to listen to Mp3s all day long but affording a cruise on a ship is waaay out of range at the moment. When I think about it, I guess comparing listening to music to a "live performance" shows a considerable lack of musicality. The same estimate would mean that a farmer back in the middle ages could sing himself. BUT, this doesnt make up for a VIP Special live performance of your favourite band, does it? (Hmmm..The Sisters of Mercy playing live at my birthday barbecue...sweet, but wont happen).
Whats more having a cellphone, email, a car and all that only means that I HAVE TO HAVE it. Everyone expects me to be able to drive 50miles a day to come to work and being able to reach me anytime, everywhere. So this means most things loose a lot of appeal when they are used by the masses. In fact they might turn into the opposite, meaning what once was there to make your live easier makes it easier to control you.
I am not whining here, I like tech and I like having central heating/air condition but your post is a bit too general. The second part of the post is totally random. And whats more: time and money are limited ressources.
If anyone ever bothers to implement his set of rules in an AI to rule the world he can sue them.
Wich means that, if his etihcs are any good, the AI will back him up and hand world-domination into his hands. HARHARHAR!!!
I dont know about you, but I for one hereby welcome our new World-Leader John LaMuth and would advice him to keep in mind that loyal Unix-Admins (such as me! *hint*) will assure him his power.
Err... as far as I remember it as something as: We have the bacground radiaton wich decays with time. Knowing the speed of the universes expanse and knowing the decay of the background radiation we can do the math. Caution: I might beterribly wrong here but thats how I remember and since Im at work right now I dont want to google it out...
I mean, with all the infrastructure and the servers running smoothly I personally believe this to be a very promising effort. So are they in or are they out of the funding?
Somebody should have made his SimCity Homework.
My cities never fall short of power since I fear the riots...;-)

When will they announce the final, final Termination? Tomorrow? This is actually too funny to be true.
Funny isn't it? From all the hundreds of /.ers who reported this story they chose the one with a broken link to kernel.org and redundant text.
But remember: "Be Descriptive, Clear and Simple and descriptive, and clear and simple!"
Sorry, couldn't resist, old jokes are best.
Could have also gone for:
smoke and mirrors
Yup, it the coolest place to be...
Well...this was just too much. What s next?

What's wrong with these?
Thats why with Unix the "one tool for one job" dogma was invented. Works fine. Thank you.
World Domination, probably. ;-)

Looks like the Dropline-server dropped the line. ;-)
Its slashdotted right now...please try again later.

K, he patented an Ethic AI.

Yeah, it IS gross. I remember clicking on goatse or tubgirl links that were less disgusting than that...I still shiver...uah!!
