I don't doubt its a good game while working ok; most of the magazine reviews I read said how its a great game fatally flawed by the bugs.

The problem seems to lie in the huge development time; if you had a 3dfx-based card then you might be fine, but by the time of release NVidia were in the ascendant, and no way near enough testing was done to the DirectX engine. It seems like the beta team said 'well, it works ok on this PC' without giving it a proper go on any of the other popular hardware configurations.

Once again another argument for consoles, where you are writing for a standard hardware platform. Unfortunately, U9 requires copious hard-drive space to work in, so a console version would have been a squeeze.

From the article: "A booster rocket will ignite to accelerate the X-43A to its test speed and altitude of about 100,000 feet"

Since its a scramjet, that starting speed has got to be above mach 1 (the point of a scramjet is that the fuel is injected into the airflow at supersonic speed). It says 10 seconds and 17 miles at the start of the article, which is a mean speed of 6120 miles per hour. As it also says speeds up to 7200 miles per hour thats a first approximation of a roughly 5000 mph start speed (yes, I know that a linear velocity increase is a massive approximation, but it'll do for now.)

    2) Microsoft have denied the rumour as the bunch of factless speculation it is.

1978: Work starts on Empire and to some extent Jedi, thanks to the amazing success of the film.

1979: Star Wars re-released to cinemas, with 'A New Hope' added to the title scroll, in anticipation of...

1980: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back hits the cinemas.

So while its true that 'A New Hope' was only added once Empire was a definite go, the release was out there before we actually got to see the film. I don't doubt that there are plenty who didn't see the re-release, since they had already seen the film, however.
