    Have you ever seen this done well? It always looks good on paper.

    What about virtualization, and byte-code virtualmachine processes? How many context switches will you do "all the way down"?

    How about subjecting hardware access to the same environment as arbitrary use case and unlimited connectivity options of a user context.

    This is normally called a "defect". Performance design failure and security disaster, in one convenient package!

    You're ALL missing the point.

    This is not a "news item" because he used some "arcane technology" from the view of the uninitiated.

    This is a calculated iteration in the advancement of declaring web automation tools "instruments of terror" and "cyber weapons", for prosecutorial purposes.

    You vilate a ToS with these, and WHAM! Terror suspect!

    Yeah. I run on noname VPS. But Amazon is an easy to do 1-shot for app + storage. I was contrasting to the Closed Source app.

    Commercial, propietary and expensive. Stand up a linux box on EC3, with your storage portal of choice.

    ownCloud is open source. If you are a Slashdotter, the time investment should be trivial and the geek/maker factor somewhat exhilarating. 20 bucks a month will blow the doors off of Dropbox pricing for terabyte in the sky. Plus you have a migration/passthrough to Drop, etc.
