i downloaded the entire text of the english wikipedia. 6gb compressed, 10gb uncompressed. if it really is a 1:4 ratio then the total size of wiki text is ~40gb.
my experience with firefox has been extremely horrible since 4.0. i simply can't have more than 2 tabs open and browse properly. ff hogs ~25% cpu continuously. all flash is blocked, ads are blocked, 9 addons are installed (adblock+, fb photozoom, flashblock, imglikeopera, lastpass, omnibar, tab mix+, text link, tineye). scrolling is horrendous, and a new tab takes ~10 seconds to open. i have repeatedly deleted all traces of ff and done clean installs, to no avail. ie9 is at least 100x better than ff6. i have ff installed and keep it updated and check every once in a while if it has improved, but no luck so far. instead of dicking around with fucking ui designers mozilla should hire programmers. who can clean up the mess and give us a browser that has ui not more than notepad. seriously guys, all i need is a place to write urls, a back/forward button, a stop/reload button, and a fucking menu bar. you know?? like the one notepad still has?? yeah that one. 'file', 'edit', 'history', and 'tools' is all i need. and you don't need to hide it, its just 10 or 15 pixels.
it would be a much better use of your son's time if he used software like logisim or something. minecraft will impose limits due to the vast amount of time it needs you to put in to make simple ccircuits.

I worked with a teacher who ended up having an inappropriate relationship with a student. None of the communication between the two happened on facebook or email, or even phone calls. It was all done with hand written notes. So lets ban pencils and paper from schools. Digital communication is so much easier to trace. I would rather have a log of emails exchanged, or Facebook conversations than having handwritten notes.
I myself am an teacher, and work with multiple school districts. I have worked in districts where they have a policy of not friending students, and I happily comply. I had one district which wanted me to completely delete my FB and Twitter accounts, I declined that position. I have way too many friends that have moved or I don't talk to as much as I would like and Facebook is the only way to keep in touch with them. Other districts don't have such policies and I have accepted friend requests from students or made pages where all the students can get up-to-date info on changes in assignments and such. I must say that when I have the ability to communicate with students via Facebook, it makes life a whole lot easier. I also teach extra-cirricualr activities and if there is a change in schedule or place that we are practicing I can get the word out quickest on social media. I keep my FB profile clean, I don't have any pictures that would reflect upon me in an unprofessional manner. I also expect the same from any students who friend me. I have reported a few students who posted pictures of themselves drinking.
I live in a small town, and many of my students go to the same church as I do. I see students as I am running my errands around town, many of them are employed part time at restaurants and other businesses that I frequent. Passing laws to prohibit students and teachers from communicating outside of school is just plain stupid.

the carrier has no fucking way of detecting if data is being used for tethering or not, without the phone's help. if such a detection is possible on iphone, it means apple blocks features when the network wishes. nokia do not, so their phones can tether over any network, at the same charges you browse on the phone itself.

so, all that means is that uk carriers are being a bit more liberal in handing out features. apple would still block features if any operator asks them to (which it does everywhere out of the uk it seems). my point stands: nokia is the only manufacturer which does not limit features to please operators, it adds features to please end users. and its getting fucked due to people like you who value bling over functionality.

yeah what is missing in this whole picture is that unionizing should be fucking illegal. you telling me the reason verizon's profit doubled is that these guys worked 2x harder?? or did work that was 2x more valuable?? i don't think so. they did the same thing they did last year. the profit came from the people above these union guys. their work actually created the value. but i am not surprised considering there is a super strong sense of entitlement in people these days, especially mediocre people.
