the problem with boycotting sony is that if you want the best of any electronic product, you just can't ignore them. they have the best mp3 players, the best laptops, the better gaming consoles, the best handheld gaming consoles, the best tvs, one of the better ebook readers, one of the best sounding audio shit (earphones, speaker systems), one of the best cameras, the best video cameras, decent cellphones.
now you can disagree with me that sony products are usually better, but you can't ignore them. if you boycott sony completely, its your loss. maybe you'd have a better deal in a specific product (eg, game console), but then you'd have to buy shitty earphones.

no, if i call someone on skype, my voice is streamed to my friend directly. not through a central skype server. to complete this trip, packets containing my voice have to hop from server to server, without any connection to any central server. this is as p2p as it can get. the whole thing works beautifully.

chrome has made the version numbers a thing for the 'coders' to worry about. if you are a normal user, you are supposed to use 'chrome'. you don't think about the number. it updates silently in the background and there are rarely any jarring ui changes. in fact i installed chrome 5, and after a few months, i thought, 'maybe i should update this thing'. i clicked the about thing and was surprised to learn that it was now 9!
this approach is also kinda ok, i guess. the last thing anyone wants to mess with is version numbers.

ironical that in the browser case, msie is the only one in which version numbers actually mean significant improvement. i dunno if i'm the only one who thinks so, but i prefer ie9 over chrome (whatever the latest number). and of course firefox (3 & 4) is the undisputed king of browsers.

Other have proposed that idea, and still others have rejected it because each hop adds round trip delay. So while peer-to-peer is great for message passing, it sucks for real-time audio. SMS texting, on the other hand, would do fine on a peer-to-peer network.

firefox is anyway fast enough for me. also, chrome tends to suffer from a slower startup.
but in the end it always comes down to tree-style tabs for me. it utilizes the widescreen on my laptop and i can have 50+ tabs open grouped together according to topics and subtopics.
also, when you close firefox, it remembers your position on each page (great for reading html ebooks) and remembers all the history of every tab.
in chrome, when you undo close tab, all the history is missing. and the position is lost too.

otoh, when you buy a computer from a vendor with os pre-installed (dell, hp, apple, acer, toshiba) there's never any problem. everything just works.
people here complain about drivers because they like to buy cutting edge graphic cards and put them into their pcs. sometimes they face problems related to drivers. i'd like to see you open up your apple products and put in a new nvidia.
