I think it would be great.

since it's doubtful microsoft will be broken up, maybe they will be forced to open up APIs and such enough that this could work.

I've often wished that wine would take the next step and implement an explorer-type option when run in desktop mode.

didn't any of you ever play with "executor", the mac OS "clone" wouldn't seem to be too hard to take that to the next level and make it standalone.

I'm all for it, even though I like linux a lot, I'd still love to see an opensource windows, though there is no way Microsoft wouldn't do everything in their power (which is absolute) to crush it.

A close-sounding name with a real, legitimate purpose is one thing, but purposely deceiving people is bad. and if they think they are at a site they are not, it can harm the company who is being "typoed"

I had a phone number 1 digit off from USWest when I was in college, and we'd get at least 20 wrong numbers a day. I started answering the phone "hello, this is uswest, how can I assist you" and usually they would buy it. Anyone they asked for, I'd say that they were fired. Not really my fault (I swear) but if I intentionally set up a phone company number for a competing company just 1 digit away so I could take their business, it would be wrong. And it's happened.

As slashdot is a site which receives over a million hits a day, and has made millions (billions?) of dollars off of linking other websites, it owes it to those sites and the visitors who have made it what it is, to implement a system which will not be detrimental to most of the sites which it links, and also will allow those of us who come here for information an opportunity to view it.

Other games which were promising linux ports are also dropping off the bandwagon. Duke Nukem Forever has now said that a linux port just isn't worth their time (even though they are based off the UT engine which has a Linux port already) and it's not gonna happen.

No games for linux without a market, and no market without games. The age old problem. And companies faced with losing money (apparently) on linux ports just aren't feeling that it's worth it anymore.

It's unfortunate, but Netscape really dropped the ball on this one, and the only real reason to stick with netscape at this point seems to be a dislike of microsoft.

If you knew my feelings about MSIE, and understood how much it took me to switch, you would know for sure that there is a problem with netscape.

considering the recent article about MSIE and how it's bastardizing the web, this is very unfortunate. But when Netscape crashes every time I visit my main site of interest, it's pretty much out of the running.

I hope NS6 will be good enough to bring people back, but from trying the beta, with that hideous interface, I can't imagine it will do much better.
