It is now Nvidia that wins the crappy-linux-drivers crown. Aside from the fact that they are closed binaries, among other things you can now do hardware accelerated H264 on AMD supported cards in Linux. In the meantime, if you own a newish Nvidia card, it only exists on their Windows driver.

Seven out of the top ten supercomputers in the latest top500 list have AMD in them, including the top two, so I don't really see the whole "AMD losing momentum and competitiveness.
At the same time, it' s no ordinary office space. Visitors say it' s fully stocked with Microsoft technologies, including a Surface tabletop computer with a virtual guestbook application.
and it's very high tech! For some reason, the fact that it's "stocked with Microsoft technologies" makes it sound like a very ordinary office.
See Dropbox. I use it as an SVN service of sorts with my supervisor. It runs on Linux and is open source, although you do have a 2GB limit on free accounts. It's quite good.
The Ars article discusses in detail how cloud computing and FOSS can work together. Use the cloud only as storage and encrypt in the frontend with suitable open code.

I'm pretty sure only Apple sells Macs, and I'm also pretty sure Apple is using genuine Apple hardware. .
What do you mean by genuine Apple hardware? As in Intel processors, Nvidia cards,...?

except being far apart you have the problem of getting the track actually built...
There's already a train line that goes from Vancouver to Toronto, it only takes 6 days, so I don't think there's the need for a Maglev/bullet train.
