A government regulator, Ruckelshaus, refused to accept the results of the hearings and ruled it to be banned, if that's what you are referring to. The UN recently admitted it was a mistake to have banned the use and brought it back. Meanwhile 40,000,000 die, mostly children in the third world.
It's hard to tell if you agree or not. My sarcasm meter seems to be broke so I will take it at face value.
It's my understanding that UL was and is funded by insurance companies. Companies that urn the UL label are cheaper to insure because they have fewer law suits.Companies that don't have higher insurance rates and find it harder to compete. Sounds like a reasonable situation where market forces work to regulate the market place. OSHA appears to be redundant here.
In a normal situation, I would say the workers are free to go work for an employer that offers better working conditions. La Boetie in his essay "Discourse on Voluntary Servitude" wrote:
Obviously there is no need of fighting to overcome this single tyrant, for he is automatically defeated if the country refuses consent to its own enslavement: it is not necessary to deprive him of anything, but simply to give him nothing; there is no need that the country make an effort to do anything for itself provided it does nothing against itself. It is therefore the inhabitants themselves who permit, or, rather, bring about, their own subjection, since by ceasing to submit they would put an end to their servitude.
Couldn't the same be said of an employer that holds that much power? Do you take up the yoke for security or do you take yourself someplace else? We always have a choice.
The government should regulate anything that one person's actions directly affect another person's rights. ie. FDA makes sure some company doesn't sell you shitty drugs. however, health insurance doesn't affect me if you don't have it.
Ever hear of Underwriters Laboratories? You don't need government regulation for product safety.
You consider anyone to the left of Limbaugh a RINO, and you aren't sure about Rush. Graham votes with his party far more than 85% of the time, on a ranking of votes he's middle of the republican pack. I know you guys like mindless drones who spout the party line, but that's getting ridiculous. Is anyone who's ever had a conversation with a D now a RINO?
He didn't used to be but he is now. And He is my senator so I'm in a better position to know.
... I was. It seems maybe the price has come down some. I paid $8,000 for mine 2 years ago and they are 16 channel but I have 75% and 90% loss and couldn't get by without them. Inherited nerve deafness. I still can't here the keyboard though.. oh, wait! never mind. I hear Bluetooth is gonna be incorporated in the next generation.
I would think things like prestige, grants, awards, etc, anything to keep the money rolling in. These people are just as human as anyone else. The fact that these people were at the top of the heap in climate research probably means they were extraordinarily competitive also. That might be motivation to game the system to increase your edge. They had it going for a long time and might have thought they could still keep things under control. When you think you are on a winning streak, you don't think about it ending. It's often one little thing that brings it down. I don't gamble anymore. Too tempting to stay in the game and get one more good roll. I'm just saying everyone is human. Maybe they weren't running a scam on purpose but they certainly had group think going for them. Neither side is immune is the point.
Barring the chance this might be sarcasm (and if it is, I apologize in advance) it was leaked with the emails. Ever hear of the Pentagon Papers or police tip lines? It's out there now. To ignore it would be illogical.
Science: eating fatty food is bad for you
Government: we outlaw them all
Science: oh, some fatty foods are good
Government: we outlaw all other food !
Science: oh, some fatty foods are bad, some are good, depending on you
Government: okay, seriously... everybody alive is breaking the law. How could this possibly happen ? People simply have no respect for the laws anymore.
Science:...
Government: obviously the solution is more laws !

Do you think Hell, Michigan is named because its supposed to actually represent hell? Or maybe the real estate pimps of thousands of years ago, are exactly like now, when trailer parks are sometimes named 'Luxury Court'...
Oh, I used to live near there and I heard the story behind it. They were going to name it after some Congressman or such and, when they contacted him to tell him and invite him to visit, his response was "You can name it Hell for all I care!" so they did.
However, one thing I did see was a list of signatures from people opposed to the climate change theory - almost all of whom had no science qualifications.
I really have no idea if you might have seen this or not but just trying to be helpful. These people seem to have some qualifications...
How can you trust the food from the store if you're not the one making it?
I can look a the food and read the list of ingredients and judge for myself. I assume the raw data is printed on the box.
The mountains of research done on this is pretty clear about why it's happening. But I don't expect facts to get in the way of beliefs anytime soon. Be that as it may, why is not the important. The important questions, and the ones the climate scientists spend a lot of time working out, are how it's going to affect us and what we can do to prepare for it.
No, IMHO If it had been made clear there wouldn't be this all out war going on about it. Especially when the political ramifications are so great. They need to do a much clearer job. IANAS but there are glaring contradictions that need to be resolved.
Not only that, but I am deaf and wear hearing aids. The use of background music really interferes with my ability to process the voice over for the video. I had to listen several times to pick out much of what was said although I found the visual part fascinating. I guess CC is too much to ask as an option. Some irony there, trying to produce such a quality presentation on multitouch input that it overloads my capacity to process the output. So it goes, more my problem then anyone else's.
I'm not sure how this tool make the people more acceptable.

So the non-governmental regulators are regulated by the government. So you have government regulation, it's just indirect.
UL was started in 1892, OSHA in 1971. Seems to me they were probably getting along fine for all that time.

ROFLMAO

Bluetooth aids were avalible 3 years ago...
Yeah, that makes me feel better and better about the price.

Being a hip, modern government, I suspect it will be called iMail instead.
It might be better called Blackmail.
What company, with several billion dollars at it's disposal, has an incentive to go to the moon or Mars?
Apple?
The message only affects people that lack depth perception.

Strange that the WSJ and Rupert Murdoch and the skeptics can be portrayed as having a conspiracy but the other side can not? I call double standard.

Sharks with frickin lasers?
Hire the pirate "companies" to escort ships through the area.
Pretty soon they will just call them the Somali navy or coast guard (a.k.a. pirates with a budgets, pension, and dental).
Yeah, they already have a stock market. All the modern conveniences.
You mean other than the IPCC treaty draft? Which I did happen to download and read, btw...
I disagree. According to Newsweek, it seems that the global warming industry gets $50 billion and the skeptics have a bit over $19 million.

I agree with you about the previous administration, but the current one is clueless. They don't even try to deny their lies.
Troll?? You've got to be kidding. Whether you or I agree with this or not, It does not warrant troll.
Use a sharpie.
