    Kissinger was awarded the prize for helping to negotiate a cease-fire in Vietnam. The agreements failed. In hindsight, he may not have been deserving of the prize. But he did something. Obama had done nothing. Not nothing lasting, not nothing good, but nothing. He just got elected.

    Have Google or Facebook corrupted standards organizations? Threatened OEMs? Illegally abused monopolies to gain market share in other markets and lock out competitors? Massacred standards to create lock-in?

    Roads are paid for by taxed gas.

    Wrong! I hear this all the time as an argument why I should not ride my bicycle on the roads, but it is not true. Less than half of road funding comes from gas taxes.

    Furthermore, weight causes road damage. A 2000 pound electric car paying zero gas taxes would be better for the financial bottom line than a 4000 pound SUV. (Both of which are subsidized by a 165 pound taxpayer riding a 30 pound bicycle.)

    With the existing system, if you wipe the disk and reinstall, will the interface names always be the same? It sounds like that is what they are trying to ensure. It could be helpful for frequently re-imaged machines and for diagnostics.

    I have a problem with it. The want to demand that my ISP increases their costs (which naturally will be passed on to me) to store data to be used against me, despite that I have done nothing illegal. And it will do nothing to catch criminals, because they can just pass all their data through an encrypted tunnel to a VPN provider in another country. Waste of my money.

    I do not use Linux to feel good. I use it because it works well. Well, except for streaming Netflix.

    Probably because the same stupid lady reports her stupid kid missing 3 times a week from age 13 to 17 because he comes late, and those 750+ reports show up the same as 750 different children.

    The latest alert in this area was for a woman who told a guy to take her child with him when she let him borrow her car (assuming he would return the car with child instead of stealing it). She did not admit this to police until the next day. The incident was held up as an AMBER Alert success.

    Their keyboards and mice are excellent. I have been using them on my Linux computers for more than a decade. The logo comes off with sandpaper nicely.

    OTOH, were Google to implement some way of handling software version numbers intelligently, it would make it a much more useful service.

    That would require software vendors to handle version numbers intelligently and consistently.

    1.5mb pipe without issue, but 3mbps is what I would say the "happy" spot is.

    I live in a US city of 250,000 people in a county of over a million. But the best Internet connection I can get for under $100/mo does only 384Kbps up, has lousy latency, and goes down for 30 second at a time a few times an hour. From what I understand, this is pretty typical.

    Remote thin clients are simply not feasible for most US residents.
